School (Hallway)

Amanda walked down the hall, feeling glad that school had finally ended for the day. I can't wait for the weekend, she thought. She was making her way towards the school exit when she saw Lisa standing there. Oh crap. I'm not in the mood for this.

Lisa saw Amanda and immediately approached her 'friend'. She stood in Amanda's way, crossing her arms against her chest.

"Uh...hey." Amanda said, in an awkward tone.

"Are you going to tell me or not?"

Amanda stared at her friend with a blurred expression. "Tell you...what?"

Lisa rolled her eyes. "Oh, don't play dumb! Nate told me. You were in some sort of 'depression' state."

That dude! What did he tell her exactly? Amanda straightened her bag on her shoulder. "Well...maybe I was. But I'm feeling better today." She said monotonously.

Lisa smirked. "Sure. Of course you feel better. So Nate is on your side now. It's no wonder you're better in a snap right?"

"What...are you saying Lisa?"

Lisa moved close to Amanda and whispered in her ear, "If you think you're trying to win Nate by making him feel sorry for you, you're playing the wrong card dear."

Amanda glared at Lisa. "How dare you. I didn't ask him to feel sorry for me! He-He loves me!"

"You really think so? I know your secret Amanda. Just remember that." Lisa said in a warning tone.

Amanda felt clueless. What secret? Shoot! Has she found out about Brandon being my brother? But how? Amanda blinked a few times. No, no. Stay calm Amanda. She's just tripping you.

Lisa smiled. Seeing her friend speechless felt like a winning match to her. "All I'm saying is, just watch how much your precious Nate can love you." She winked at Amanda before leaving her.

Amanda told herself to calm down. She hurried towards the car that was waiting for her in the school carpark.

Weekend (Sommer Residence)

Amanda was definitely glad that it was already the weekend. School had been a bit of hell for her that week. Although, she had to admit that spending lunchtime in the library with Nate was the only moment she felt happy in school.

It was Saturday and she was watching a documentary about penguins on the television. Brandon entered the living room, carrying a bowl of popcorn. He took a seat beside his sister on the sofa. Amanda noticed him but she continued focusing on the television screen.

Brandon held out the bowl of popcorn towards his sister.

Amanda turned her attention to him. "What's wrong?"

"Want some?"

"Depends. Is it poisoned?" she replied sarcastically.

Brandon rolled his eyes. "No. If it was poisoned I wouldn't have eaten 'em myself."

"Hm. Logic." She said quietly. She reached into the bowl and took a few before stuffing them all into her mouth.

"Easy there. Hungry much?" Brandon looks at her, slightly disgusted that his sister wasn't as proper as he expected her to be.

"Whatever." She said, with her mouth full.

The both of them watched the documentary quietly. Once in a while Brandon would sneak a peek at his sister. He noticed the fading scars on his sister's wrist. A part of him felt relief that she wasn't self-harming anymore. He also noticed how her eyes sparkled with excitement every time the television showed a close up of the penguins.
