(The Night Before)

Amanda yawned. She looked at the time on her phone. It's past three in the morning and yet here they were, still playing the Monopoly board game.

"It's your turn again." Brandon said as he passed the dice to his sister.

Amanda took the dice and looked at her piece which was in the jail. She rolled three times and still no double popped up. "I'm done."

"Oh come on! Just pay up and get out of the jail will ya?" Brandon groaned.

"No! I need to save my money okay! Whose fault was it to build hotels on each sides of the board huh?!" she replied, frustrated.

"Oh come on sweetie, your dad and I have landed on the hotels one time each. Be fair!" Their mum joined the argument.

"Yeah, and look at what you have left." Amanda said sarcastically. She leaned into the sofa, making herself more comfortable.

"You're just stingy." Brandon added.

"Yeah, I am stingy 'cause I don't want to spend my money on you."

Brandon rolled his eyes and continued watching their parents play their turn.

"No Ethan! You cannot add another house! It's not your turn!" Samantha Sommer argued.

"What? My turn is after your turn, so it's basically the same isn't it?" Ethan Sommer said to his wife while laughing.

"Yeah but my turn isn't over yet!" Samantha giggled along. She hit her husband's arm jokingly.

Brandon watched his parents' playful argument and smiled to himself. Right. And they were surprised to see me and Amanda fight. They're basically the same too. Hm, that's weird. Why isn't that dweeb saying anything? Usually she would nag and join in an argument.

Brandon turned to his sister who was sitting next to him. Turns out she had fallen asleep on the sofa. What the hell. This girl...

"Hey mum, dad. We have a sleeper." Brandon gestured towards his sleeping sister.

"Aw. We didn't even get to see you win." Ethan frowned.

"Oh come on darling, it's late anyways. Let her sleep. Maybe we can have another match during winter break." Samantha suggested.

"Alright." Ethan glanced over his watch. "We do have that 8.30 meeting in the morning. We better get some sleep too then." Ethan stood up from his seat and stretched his arms.

Samantha on the other hand was keeping the game's realty cards into the box.

"It's alright mum. I'll keep everything up. It doesn't look so complicated anyway. You and dad should go to bed." Brandon said, as he started keeping the game's pieces.

Samantha smiled at her son and gave him a light pat on his head. "Thank you son." She got up and followed her husband up the stairs. Halfway up, she stopped and called out towards her son, "Hey Brandon?"

Brandon looked up from the board. "Yeah mum?"

"Don't forget to wake your sister up. I don't think she's used to sleeping anywhere else aside from her room." Samantha said, laughing a little.

Brandon gave his mum an assuring smile. "Sure mum. Good night!"

"Good night dear." She went up to her room.
