"Sorry Hiccup, but that is a bit too hard to believe. I get it that dragons are much more intelligent than people think, but actually talking to them, with your thoughts...?" Ivar sounded highly sceptical.

"I can't say I fully understand it, but it is true. Did you see me do anything to make Whiplash let you go?" Hiccup answered. He looked at Ivar and his shoulders slumped. "You still don't believe me."

"Sorry."

"It is not easy to believe something like that, you know," Fishlegs said.

"Okay, okay, fine, how about this?" Hiccup got up. "I'll go behind Whiplash. Toothless will tell me what you do, and I will tell you without watching. And don't worry about him; he seems to like you," Hiccup assured, pointing at Toothless.

"I noticed," Ivar grumbled. Some saliva was still hanging from his hair, but at least the tears were gone.

"We should talk about that too, but let's do this first."

Hiccup walked behind the red dragon, leaving Ivar to sit opposite to Toothless and Fishlegs. Hiccup could still see him through Toothless' eyes. For a moment Ivar seemed uncertain, looking to his sides at the forest around them, but soon he lifted his hand and held up two fingers.

"You are holding up two fingers," Hiccup said.

Ivar lifted his other hand with three fingers up.

"Now five, three on the other hand."

Ivar pulled his hands back and looked at Whiplash, who was hiding Hiccup behind him.

"Just tell me if you believe already."

Ivar looked at Toothless again. He leaned to his side, looking at the flight gear and artificial tailfin. Toothless turned a bit to let him see better.

"Didn't you notice it earlier?" Hiccup asked.

"I did, kind of, but all this is a lot to take in at once. Did you make it?"

"Yes, though we needed to crash a couple of times before I got it to work."

"It's amazing... And you can really tell what I'm doing?" He asked, stepping up to Toothless and beginning to examine the contraption on the dragon's back.

"Everything that Toothless sees, I can see. You can adjust the tailfin by turning the pedal."

Ivar tinkered with the pedal, looking back and watching as the fin moved, impressed. He placed his hand on the saddle, stroking the leather.

"You really fly on him?"

"We fly together, yes. That's how we really bonded. Is this enough yet?" Hiccup asked.

"...You seem to know everything Toothless sees, so I guess I have to believe you. Can you talk to any dragon?"

"So far? Yes," Hiccup answered as he walked back to them, "but Toothless is special. Our minds are bonded more tightly."

"And what's it like?"

Hiccup hummed in thought. "Well, it's hard to explain... What is the opposite of loneliness?" Hiccup scratched behind Toothless' ears.
