Chapter 4

Skylar

"Skylar! Skylar!" Tessa came running up to me in the hallway with a wide smile plastered on her face.

"Yeah, What's up?" I laughed as she fell into pace with me, out of breath from running.

"I-I think. I think I'm going to ask Anthony to the winter formal," She panted, but still managed to keep her smile. My own smile faltered but I regained control quickly.

"You don't say," I raised my eyebrows, unsure how to act. On one hand, I really wanted to be happy for her; this has been her dream since like forever. But on the other... well I knew I couldn't ask him to go to the formal with me- he was off limits because of Tessa's feelings for him - but I still wasn't as happy about it as I should be. As much as I hated to admit it, I felt something when we kissed, something different.

"Yeah! So after you left that night, he stayed because he was too drunk to drive. Right? So we ended up talking and I-I just can't. I got to know him so well. He's sooo adorable," She swooned. "When he had someone pick him up, he had to leave his car at my house! And so he has to pick it up today after school. That's when I'm gonna ask him."

"W-What?" I coughed. "So soon?" I furrowed my eyebrows and felt panic seep into my veins. I had no idea she was going to be so impulsive about this. I don't know why, but I felt the need to talk to him about everything first. Not that it would change anything, I still couldn't have him, but I just needed to.

"Yeah! I've got to snatch him up before any other hoes get him," She laughed. "That reminds me. Can you talk to him? Kind of make sure he'll say yes?"

"Wait what? Why me? I-I don't really-"

"Oh come on, please?" She begged with wide eyes. "I don't want to get humiliated, and you guys seemed to be getting along really well at the party last week."

"I don't know about really well, but I mean, I guess we talked a little," I panicked. What did she mean by that? Did she see us kissing and this was just her way of getting it out of me?

"Yeah. He didn't have a lot of friends there, so thanks for hanging out with him," She smiled. I didn't say anything for a minute as I tried to see if she was trying to play me.

"Y-Yeah. I-It was no problem," I let out a relieved sigh once I was pretty sure she had no idea what happened. I was still conflicted if I should tell her about the kiss or not. I mean, it wasn't technically cheating bc they aren't even dating. But at the same time, I know she likes him and I still kissed him anyway. And to hide the fact of that might make it worse.

"So you'll talk to him?"

"Yeah, okay whatever," I nodded and she grinned.

"Yay!" She squealed. "Okay, just do it before school ends so I can ask him later. And don't make it obvious that I'm going to ask him, just like bring me into the conversation and see his reaction."

"Yeah yeah, don't worry. I got it," I waved her off.

"Okay, thank you so much babe! I've got to run, but don't forget! Ah I'm so excited!" She squealed again before running off and disappearing around the corner.

The fact that I had to talk to Anthony about Tessa literally pained me. For one thing, I've been avoiding him all week in attempt to suppress feelings that I knew were inevitable. For another, I just didn't want to have to pretend I didn't like him; that only made it more real and pretty sad actually.
