Isaac and I had walked into the ajoined dining room next to the kitchen. Most of everyone was there already. Caroline and Molina were chatting with each other on the farther side, a unfamiliar man on Caroline's arm. Molina, who was more faced towards the entrance noticed our arrival. Well, more of Isaac's arrival. She looked flustered and shy under his gaze and I felt Isaac stiffen next to me. I watched their encounter and I felt like they were hiding something between the others because they did not wear these emotions on their sleeves. There was secretcy.

Then there was Alex.

He was standing in the corner, looking outside the window by himself

He was standing in the corner, looking outside the window by himself. His silence spoke volumes to me and the aura about him radiated for miles. I found my own heartbeat starting to go faster simply looking at him.

Mine.

As if he heard me, his gaze moved to me. His eyes gulped me in and I felt naked under his stare. It was starting to become hard to believe that just hours before he killed somebody with his bare hands. He was still intense, but he was no longer intimidating in this environment. I felt safe enough to approach him without worry.

He shifted his weight on his feet, chewing on his lip across the room, fearful to take another step towards me. My heart was in my throat under his gaze. Being investigated. Examined. I couldn't break the connection between us. After another moment, he finally stepped forward. Christina began to fan-girl.

He's coming! He's coming! Act natural!

Alex moved with a suave in his movement that was hypnotic. He had a swag in his step that made panties drop. I found myself drooling over his appearance as it was much more sophisticated but casual. He was mind-blowing to me.

Alex gave me a warm smile and stuffed his hands into his pants pockets, seems to be nervous. How can this guardian angel be nervous about me? I found myself closing myself away from him by grabbing my arm and avoiding his glare. "You look very pretty in that dress." I smiled to humor him. I appreciated the compliment sincerely, but I couldn't believe he was even talking to me.  There was an awkward moment between us. No one said anything. No one did anything.

The energy must have been noticeable in the room because that's when Caroline moved and made a statement. "I think the food should be ready soon. Shall we take our seats?"

Everybody moved to nearby seats. Caroline and David seat next to each other with Molina on the end close to the head of the table on the far side of the room. Isaac sat across from Molina straddling the point of the table. Alex had moved to slide the chair back on the opposite head of the table for me. He quietly bowed to me and offered the seat. I gladly took it and he slid the chair back under before making his way across the table to the other side. The room was silent until Alex sat in his seat, examining me across the long table.

Isaac glanced towards the entrance behind me occasionally as there was an obvious empty seat next to Isaac. The only person we happened to be missing is Devin. This did not go unnoticed by the group. Caroline motioned towards one of the kitchen workers and they maneuvered and organized seven plates of small salads in front of every seat with a side of dressing.
