Six

Lauren's POV:

"Lauren!!" Familiar voices scream and run towards me, crushing me into a hug.

"Hey guys," I tell them and smile big. It's the little boys and Dani.

"Who's that Lauren," Nick asks and points to the boy next to me. I'm lying next to Jake in the same position we fell asleep in, the older ones must have told them where we were. The older ones are sitting around on chairs, talking and checking their phones.

"It's Jake," I say and Nick nods. The little boys run off to say hello to the others. Dani sits on my bed and raises an eyebrow at me.

"Who's Jake?" She asks me confused.

"Oh, this guy I bumped into," I tell her and she nods.

"How are you feeling?" She asks me in a whisper, I move slightly, trying not to wake Jake beside me. I sit up on the bed and reach out for her hand which she gladly accepts.

"Don't worry Dan," I tell her with a small smile. She doesn't say anything but continues to hold my hand.

"Hm," A croaky voice whispers out and I realise it's Jake who is now slowly waking up.

"Oh hey," I say to him and give him a smile.

"Hey." He smiles back.

"So this is Dani," I point to her and Jake smiles at Dani while Dani just looks at him.

I slap her arm and she looks at me with a pained expression.

"What was that for?" She asks me annoyed.

"Stop staring," I tell her and laugh.

"Hey I'm Jake," Jake says and Dani nods.

"I'm Dani. Laur's sister," She says and I call the little boys over who were playing in the corner.

"Joey, Nick, Chris!" I call them over and they soon come running.

"This is Jake," I gesture towards him and they nod.

"I'm Christian,"

"I'm Nick,"

"I like your shirt," Joey says causing Jake to laugh.

"Thank you, uh, Joey is it?" Jake says while ruffling his hair.

"Yep," He says, popping the p.

"How do you know my sister?" Joey asks confused, Nick and Christian go back to the game they were playing and I begin to get off the bed. I take my seat onto a blue chair, while Dani sits next to me.

"Well, She was walking in the hallway and so was I, we bumped into each other," Jake says looking at me while giving me a cute smile. Woah. Did I just call his smile cute? Knock it off Lauren geez.

"Okay," Joey says and then runs off to join Nick and Christian.

Just then, two doctors walk into our busy and crowded room.

"Jake, you have some therapy now," A doctor says and walks over to him to take the wires that were hooked up to different machines off of him. Jake nods and looks at me,

"Bye Lauren," He tells me with a smile as he gets onto the wheelchair the doctor gave him.

I wave at him and say, "Bye Jake,"

Joey, who noticed that Jake was being wheeled out comes over to me and asks,

"Where's Jake going?"

"To get some medication done," I say and he nods.

"Okay guys, let's go back to Lauren's room," Mike says and walks over to help me stand up.

The little boys walk out, taking the toys that the hospital gave us with them, we all walk out, taking our things with us and Christina leads the way to the room.

"Here, let me help you," Alex comes over to me and helps me get into my bed. The little boys go to an empty spot in the room and begin to play with the toys. The rest scatter around the room and sit down on the chairs. Dani comes to lie next to me in my bed.

"Hey Dan, hows school going?" I ask her while she gets comfortable next to me.

"Good. I saw your friends the other day," She says.

"Really? How are they? I miss them," I say. I haven't seen them since I was diagnosed with cancer and began to get homeschooled.

"They miss you too," She tells me and nods.

"Lauren, what if the Chemo still doesn't work?" She asks me, tears beginning to form.

"Dan, we'll cross that bridge when we get there, Okay?" I tell her, wiping a few tears that spilled.

"How many Chemo sessions do you have?" She asks me.

"I've already had one. I think there is nine more," I say.

"But I still have lots of radiation and therapy to deal with this," I add on and Dani nods.

"What about the guy that was next to you?" Dani raises an eyebrow at me.

"Jake?" I ask and she nods.

"Do you like him?" She asks me, smirking.

"No Dani! I just met him, plus even if I did, it would never work out," I tell her, shaking my head.

"Why?"

"Because, we both have cancer, Dan." I tell her and I immediately see the sadness in her eyes.

"And, I just don't think it would work," I say and shrug.

Dani doesn't say anything but raises her eyebrow and smirks. I shake my head, laughing slightly at her.

"Well-," Dani is cut off by a knocking sound at the door.

"Sorry everyone, visiting hours are over," A nurse says and gives us a smile before walking off.

"Ah, well I guess we better get going," Mike comes over and begins to stroke my head.

"Bye Lauren, I'll try my best to visit you tomorrow," He tells me and I nod while he gives me a small kiss on my forehead.

"Bye Lauren!" Joey, Nick and Christian shout as they rush over to me and give me a hug. I laugh at them and say,

"Bye boys," They go to meet Mike, who is waiting outside my room while the rest say goodbye.

"Will you tell Jake I said goodbye?" Joey says, rushing back into my room. I nod at him and laugh while he smiles happily at me. He then runs off to meet Mike again.

"Bye Sweetie," Kath comes over to me and gives me a hug.

"Bye Lo, feel better," Amy says and I nod at them and wave goodbye. They go outside with the others.

"Bye baby-girl. We'll all try to visit tomorrow," Lisa comes over to me and gives me a hug while giving me another kiss on my forehead.

"Bye Lise," I Tell her.

"Bye Laurie, I love you," Christina and Alex say and come over to hug me.

"Bye guys," I tell them.

"Bye Sugar," Dani says and leans over to give me a tight squeeze, both of us not wanting to let go.

"Come on Dan, we need to go," Mike pops his head into the room, trying to hurry us up.

"I love you Lo," She tells me and I can almost see a hint of depression in her eyes.

"Love you too," I tell her while she walks out.

Five minutes after they have gone, I feel my eyes closing and my body relaxing, nearly dozing off. I then fall asleep, leaving me to dream and wonder about what Dani said about me liking Jake.
