Chapter 7- a newsie rally

The rally had already started before we got there. We could hear cheering between breaks of silence and I assumed that jack was probably talking to them. I thought maybe we should wait until everything picked up again so that we could enter kind of discretely, but ellie said no and that she wants everyone to be paying attention when we enter. Something about a princess moment I think? I still thought it was a bad idea but ellie swung those doors open and walked in. I just stood there in the open doorway-mortified. All the sudden I was extremely self conscious and did not feel like the pretty girl that left Ellie's house, I just felt out of place. Momentarily the whole room when silent. For a split second everyones eyes were still on jack, and spot and Dave who were also on the stage. Then spot turned away from jack, he was obviously in the middle of a sentance, and looks right at me, and then the whole room turnes and looks at me. My can feel my face blushing a deep pink. I want to move, I want to go sit where no one can see me but my body won't let me. I just stand there. Petrified. And then spot turnes away from me and back at jack. To this day I'm not sure what he said before these words came out of his mouth, but I can assume it was good. 

"Is what I say"

The room bursts into cheers and everyone turned away from me as if I was never there. That to which I am grateful because I can finally move to go see ellie. The party commences and media comes out singing and everyone is talking. Ellie especially couldn't keep her eyes off of mush the whole night.

"You should go talk to him" I said to her noticing her interest.

"Hmm what? No. I, I couldn't. He probably doesn't even know I'm here" her nervousness makes me laugh.

"Ellie mush is one of me best friends. And you're the prettiest girl at this whole rally. I think he's gonna love you, now go!" I give here a little nudge and she started  walking over there flashing a nervous smile over her shoulder at me before she finally reached her destination to talk to mush. I decided that Ellie and mush would be cute together. While ellie fitted flawlessly I sat by myself, just watching, I didn't mind it though because it was interesting to see what people were doing and just watch. I'm good at watching. And then suprise suprise the last person I want to see disturbs my watching.

"Hey addy" I don't look at him even though I know it's him right away. 

"Hey jack" I say still looking out at the floor and not at him in the chair next to me

"Um, you look nice" 

"Ellie helped me"

"Oh yeah Ellie's here?"

"Yeah"

"Listen addy I'm sorry...about earlier. I was being stupid and I was..I'm just sorry. Ok?"

I sighed "it's ok jack, I just, I wish you would stop treating me like I was 5. You gotta let me go a little bit" 

"I know I know I will" 

I smiled and looked at him

"I love ya jack"

"I love ya too kid"

"Now" I pushed his shoulder "you get out there and find sarah" I raised my eyebrows and winked

"Aww shuddup" he grinned and walked away. I went back to watching people.

"Aw now don't tell me ya don't sing?" I turn and see a different face and sigh and turn back around.

"Whaddaya want spot?"

"I'm just wonderin what a pretty goil like youse is doin sittin by yourself" 

"Well I guess I'm not by myself I'm with you aren't I?"

"It does look like that" Why was he always near me? "I didn't expect to see ya  in a dress"

"Yeah well I'm full of surprises" I said patting down my dress and playing with the lace on the sleeves. Just then some one called spots name in the distance, something about another round of drinks.

"Well looks like I gotta go, Hey you should really talk to some people you're bringin down the party" I rolled my eyes and he flashed a smirk before turning the the direction of the voice. I took his advice though and went to go find ellie. It took me a while before I found here in one of the back rooms. She was with mush I tried to be quiet but failed and knocked a glass off a table attracting all of their attention unfortunately to me. Ellie giggled.

"Addy your not stealthy hun" she said between laughs. Mush was smiling, he looked like he really liked her. 

"Oh I was just seeing where you were sorry I'll go" 

"Oh no come sit down we were just talkin anyway" she said smiling at mush. I saw  see his face fall a little bit. I could tell he wanted to be alone with her.

"Are you sure? Because I was just going"

"No no it's fine really come here" I made my way to the couch where they were sitting. Ellie made room for me next to her. I smiled as I passed mush and when I knew he coulded see me I gave ellie a thumbs up to which she smiled really big and gave me one back. I sat down and must have been there for a good solid 20 minutes of ellie and mush flirting and giggling before slowly and surely retreating into the room next to theirs. I don't think they even noticed I was gone. 

As I backed into the next room I felt my back hit the front of someone tall and muscley. I made a little oof noise and turned around to see none other than Spot Conlon. Of course. Just my luck. He had more of a worried look on his face though than usual.

"You stalkin me or somethin conlon?"

"Cmon we gotta get outta here" he grabbed my arm and started pulling it. 

"What why?" I said tugging back.

"Just cmon ok?" He said his voice raising a bit. He pulled me into the main room where a while riot had started. There were cops and thugs everywhere. In the middle of it all I see jack getting beat up and I get so angry that I pull away from spot with as much force as I could. Enough to catch him off guard and I ran to jack. 

"ADDY" I heard spot yell but I ignored him. What did he even want anyway. All I cared about was saving my brother.

"JACK!" I yelled. I reached my hand to him just as someone punched him. He fell right into the bulls arms. "JACK" I nearly screamed. My mind was racing I didn't know what to do, he was all the family I had left. I don't know what happened to my mom and dad but I know that they are gone. I had to save him. I turned to find someone to help me when I saw a fist nearly sock me in the jaw. Before that fist could hit me someone else hit him. It was spot who after hitting him grabbed my arm and pulled me out of there.

A/N ok so that's that chapter, a lot happens. And it's long so I hope you like it! I promise that more will happen with spot soon! I know he is not the main event yet but it's coming I promise!
