"I CAN'T believe you actually shot him! How incredibly stupid can you get!" A voice screeches.
"I couldn't help it, noona. He just stood up all the sudden! I was in the process of saving him!" An oddly familiar voice pleads.
"You shot him! You freaking shot him! What do you mean 'saving him'? You almost cost us the life of a man we've been trailing for months. Don't talk to me about 'saving' anyone when you were the one who lost him in the first place!" The first voice continues without mercy. "If you had just kept an eye on him in the first place instead of goofing off like an idiot, you could've kept Neuk Dae away! At least for a time! At least until Target 6B was out of danger!"
"Noona, I couldn't help it! He just slipped away, I'm not perfect! I'm rusty! I haven't been actively on the field since last summer! Am I supposed to have x-ray vision and the ability to watch him all day every day without my brain melting?!"
"See! That! That right there!" The feminine voice screams, and I grimace. "You're so immature! You are so freaking immature! How can you even call yourself an Ace?!"
Silence suddenly ensues, then footsteps, then a door slamming. Then nothing. I decide it's an okay time for me to open my eyes. At first, all I see is blinding white. Then my eyes adjust. Now I see I am in a fairly small doctors office. An I.V. is hooked up to my arm. The burning sensation from before is now simply a dull ache. I sigh, trying to remember what exactly happened.
Then everything returns. A slight panic seizes me, and I sit up suddenly, glancing around the room.
"Woah!" A voice says. "You're awake?"
I blink and turn to the direction of the voice. There's a familiar boy standing in the corner by a window. I swallow hard, feeling cold.
"As you can see," I croak.
He smirks and shakes his head. There is a sickeningly yellow and brownish bruise on his jaw, along with a cut in his lips.
"Do you need, like, water?" He asks.
I nod quickly as the realization sets in that water is what I am craving. As he pours some tap water into a small paper cup at a sink nearby, the feeling of coldness grows more noticeable, so I glance down. I see I am not wearing a shirt. My skin is pale and stretches thin against my chest. My ribs show. I feel vulnerable in this state. My malnourished body so open for everyone to see.
My black pants are grimy and ripped. There's blood on them. Is it my blood?
"Um...what happened?" I ask the boy as he hands me the water.
He looks down, rubbing the back of his neck. He looks ashamed. I wondered if it was about the conversation I'd just overheard. The boy swallows.
"Well, you see, I uh, I sort of accidentally hurt you," he explains. "While saving your butt I might add. I mean, why would you run towards the gate?"
I ignore his unnecessary comments and look down at my shoulder. It's skillfully wrapped and there's no visible blood. I gently try to roll it. Pain shoots through my arm and side. I cry out slightly, more out of simple pain than surprise. I knew it would hurt, just not this badly.
