P.J.M"DID HE eat?" Fae asks me as I place my food tray on the table.
"Yeah, I stayed like you said," I tell her, shoving food in my mouth.
I know she hates when I chew with my mouth open, so that's exactly what I do. I'm still upset about her harsh words, and I won't be over it till she apologizes. Fae knows this, and she also doesn't want to relent. It's now a battle of stubbornness on both our parts.
"Good. We need him healthy again as soon as possible," she says.
I'm silent in reply, trying to ignore the sick feeling in my stomach. I'm trying to maintain a cool composure, to remember that people need to sacrifice sometimes, for the greater good. That's what I'd been told over and over during my training. But it's hard. It's very hard. I glance up at Fae who's eating nonchalantly. She's used to this. But for me, it'll be my first mission working with a target. One who may not be compliant.
I clear my throat, trying to find the right words.
"Uh, Noona..." I say slowly.
She shoots me a look of slight annoyance, probably already knowing I'm about to say something she won't like. I look back down at my food tray.
"What if...what if Min Yoongi doesn't really want to be apart of this assignment...?" I speak carefully, softly.
Because I already know the answer.
"Target 6B," Fae begins sharply, "is crucial to this mission, Jimin. Right now, neither of us can think about what he wants. You were partnered with me because you wanted to be. Act like it."
I sigh softly. She's right. I'm just feeling off because I've never had this type of assignment before. Everything will work out. Now isn't the time to doubt myself. Now is the time to prove myself.
"Yes," I reply obediently.
But any hunger I felt earlier has left me, unusually enough. So I say a short goodbye and begin to stand. Just as I'm doing so, an arm snakes it's way around my shoulders, causing me to tense only for a second. Then I see who it is.
"Oh! Namjoon hyung!" I exclaim, suddenly feeling lighter. "I thought you'd be busy till tomorrow!"
"Aye, me? Kim Namjoon? Have you ever known me not to finish a mission before it's set completion?" He grins, squeezing my shoulder. "I'm a bit disappointed in you, Jimin-ah."
"Yah, you told me you'd be done tomorrow! That's why I made sure to spend as much time as possible with Noona," I tell him, swatting away his hand that'd come to ruffle my hair. "Now her attention will be stolen from me earlier than I thought."
"With or without me here, Jimin, you don't stand a chance," he teases.
"Yah, Jimin, shut your mouth before I come over there!" Fae is exclaiming, beginning to stand up.
"Afternoon, Agent Chang." Namjoon sends her his signature smile, maybe in attempt to protect me.
He's the only one she'll ever swoon over, but when she does, it's almost pathetic.
"R-right, thanks— I mean, hello, er hi," she mutters. "Agent Kim."
I nudge him in thanks. A lot of other female agents, even a few male, can't help but send Namjoon an extra smile or gaze. He's the only non-offensive field agent to have so many fans. Namjoon calls himself a simple tech guy, one who can do almost anything with anything having to do with numbers. In reality, he's one of the top CTACs in our agency. Or a Computer Technology Analyst and Controller. I just call him a nerd.
"I heard you finally apprehended your Daegu Target," Namjoon says casually.
He doesn't return Fae's crush, or anyone's really. But he's a nice person, so he'll talk to everyone.
"Yeah, finally," Fae replies, adding an awkward laugh at the end of her sentence.
I smirk smugly as red creeps onto her fair cheeks, knowing it's my time to take revenge.
"Yah, Noona. Won't you ever blush like that for me?" I ask, making her reaction oh so obvious.
She sends me the darkest death glare I've ever received, and I can't help but gulp. Even so I stick out a tongue, aggravating her further. Namjoon seems to be growing anxious, having no control over the conversation at this point.
"Uh, I heard he's really smart with computers? Maybe I could meet him?" He asks quickly.
The thought of seeing Min Yoongi upsets my stomach again, so I quit making faces at Fae and slump ever so slightly. I don't want to see him.
"No, thanks," I reply, quieter. "Have Fae Noona take you or something."
Namjoon tilts his head at my sudden change in mood, finally removing his arm from my shoulder.
"Really? I thought you'd be excited to introduce me. He's your first mission target ever, Jimin-ah."
"Whatever. I don't feel great," I reply sharply.
"He probably just doesn't want to be there when you find out why he's in the infirmary," Fae begins sneakily.
I send her a look, annoyed that she'd even bring it up.
"Infirmary? Wait, he's here because he's hurt?" Namjoon asks in surprise. "What happened?"
I let out a sharp breath and take off suddenly, not caring to stop when Namjoon's calls follow me out of the commissary. So maybe I'm not just upset that Min Yoongi is being forced into a mission. Maybe I'm more upset because I'm the reason he's here in the first place.
