P.J.M
I'M SO worked up during lunch that I forget to tell Yoongi about my almost immediate success in finding our mission target. He's in my class right before lunch, and I'm only three sits away from the tall, dark haired boy. But I hadn't gotten a chance to catch up to him after our class let out, and he seemed less than interested in the new kid. But I won't let this stop me.
After lunch is a study hall, so I wander to the library with Min Yoongi, who already knows where it's located somehow.
"I'm gonna grab him by the collar and slam his head into some lockers; I'm gonna show him what years of intense combat training can get you—"
"Park Jimin," Yoongi murmurs, cutting off my rant.
"Yes?" I reply, glancing at him in surprise.
He hasn't spoken since lunch.
"We're here," he tells me.
"Wha— oh! Right," I reply sheepishly, looking up to see the large doors that lead into the library.
Yoongi sends me a glance that almost looks disproving, then he pushes into the large room. I shake it off and follow him inside. Several students walk around, talking in hushed voices, others sit, giggling at tables with untouched homework before them. But I notice one student sitting alone in the corner.
"Ah! Jeon Jungkook!" I exclaim with thinking.
I grab Yoongi's thin wrist and pull him towards the surprised looking student.
"Keep your voice down, student!" An annoyed librarian hisses as we pass her desk.
I send her an awkward, mid-jogging bow, pulling Yoongi down with me. I finally stop when we arrive at Jungkook's table, suddenly realizing I have no excuse for why I'm so eager to see him. Or for how I know his name.
"Uh, h-hello?" Jungkook mutters, looking shaken. "Can I help you?"
He watches the two of us with wide eyes, and I can feel Yoongi's gaze on me. I drop his wrist and lean towards him.
"It's the target. Jeon Jungkook," I whisper as subtly as possible, then louder to Jungkook, "Hello! Uh, this is my...step brother, er yeah. Kang Yeejin."
Jungkook sends Yoongi an awkward greeting with a nod of his head, as he's still seated.
"Uh, I-I'm sorry. I don't remember your name...sorry," he says, almost anything in a whisper.
Was he this timid when I first saw him? I wondered, tilting my head. But, then again, this is my first time actually speaking to him.
"Aha, well, I'm Kang Heebae— I mean Hanbae. We're transfers, remember?" I ask the shy boy.
He nods slowly, but I have a feeling he really doesn't remember me. We all sort of stand there for a few moments, and the regret of being responsible for this whole situation begins to build up inside of me.
"Uh, is there something you needed? Or..." Jungkook softly asks.
I bite my lip, trying to come up with a quick excuse. And Yoongi has nothing to offer.
"Well, I uh...you were the first person to smile at me...uh, after I introduced myself. It...well, it really put me at ease. I just wanted to say thank you." I feel pleased with myself at the explanation, but Jeon Jungkook only looks more confused.
"I smiled at you...?"
"Heh, yes," I reply, forcing a smile.
"I don't remem—"
"So can we sit with you?" I ask suddenly, hoping he'll forget that story as soon as possible.
When he only looks at me in surprise with no answer, I pull Yoongi and myself into chairs. Yoongi sighs softly and pulls out his textbook again, immediately starting his reading. I really want to kick his leg or something, to get him to step it up. But I also have to remind myself that his main focus was the hacking and technical part of our assignment, while mine was the fighting and making friends part. Heaving an awkward sigh, I throw on a grin and turn to Jeon Jungkook.
"Heh, sorry about my, er, brother. He's sort of shy," I explain to the wide eyed boy.
Is he completely friendless or something? Why is he so surprised that we're here?
When Jungkook just blinks in response, I clear my throat and turn to see what he's reading.
"So, Uh, What've you got there?" I ask.
Jungkook blinks again, then turns to look at the book in his hands.
"Oh. Just a manga," he mutters, staring down at it.
"Heh, fun."
I can barley remember the last time I even laid eyes on a manga. These days I have no time for things like reading. So I don't really know what to say in response to it.
"Tokyo Ghoul right?" Yoongi's voice causes me to glance up in surprise.
He's watching the young boy, half expectantly. I blink in shock and stare at him with wide eyes for a moment. Jungkook does the same before responding.
"Y-Yeah. Re. I finished the original series over the summer...have you finished it?" Jungkook seems a bit more responsive all of the sudden.
I purse my lips, slightly annoyed at how easily Yoongi gets a response. From the little time I've known him, Min Yoongi has yet to come across as a "people person."
"Yes. I've heard about the anime adaptation, but I'm more biased towards manga," Yoongi continues.
I fold my arms, leaning back in my chair as they spoke. Despite my slight jealousy, I admit, this was a good thing; getting close to Jungkook. At this point, he was one of our only keys to accomplishing our assigned mission.
