M.Y.G
I STARE at Park Jimin, trying to comprehend what he's just told me.
Then I give him a short and resounding answer.
"No," I reply.
"Argh! Min Yoongi-aah!" He groans, practically throwing his hands up in the air.
I don't understand why he's getting so upset. He asked me a yes or no question, so he should've been prepared for either answer. But it seems like he's only been looking for a yes.
"I've explained a bajillion times. What's to not like? It's the coolest experience you'll ever have! I mean, haven't you always dreamed of doing something like this?" Jimin presses, urging me towards the answer he was expecting.
"No," I say again, crossing my arms.
Park Jimin runs a hand through his hair, obviously growing frustrated.
"Listen, they asked me to come in here and be the one to ask you. Which means they're counting on me!" He explains urgently. "I don't think you understand how much is riding on this. I don't even!"
I can't care less about who's counting on Jimin or how much rides on this operation. This is obviously something I can deny, and I'm choosing to deny it. I have things to do. Things much more important than prancing around, pretending to be a high schooler. I don't want to go back to that hell, even if it's pretend.
Park Jimin lets out a soft breath, then slowly looks around the room. His eyes linger on a camera that sits in the upper corner near my hospital bed. Licking his lips, the younger boy turns back to face me, then he begins to lean in slowly. Surprised by his sudden closeness, I jerk back quickly.
"Will you stay still?" He hissed at me. "I have something to say!"
Jimin throws a glance at the monitor once more.
"Okay, listen," He begins, facing me once more. "I'll make you a deal."
I tilt my head ever so slightly, wondering just what he thinks he can offer me for any kind of help. Obviously nothing. How can someone who needs nothing, nor wants anything be offered something? But I'm silent, waiting for him to continue.
Jimin bites his lip for a moment, that look of unsureness running across his face once more.
"To be completely honest, Fae Noona and I have been watching you for the past six months or so."
I blink at him. This isn't surprising. I figured something was up when I was attacked and then saved by someone who somehow knew my name and that I was in trouble. But I suppose I haven't really given it much thought.
"Min Yoongi, What I'm trying to say is..." He pauses again.
Then Park Jimin reaches into a bag hanging messily over his shoulder. I haven't really noticed it until now. The thing is, he seems prepared. I start to wonder if maybe he did have a feeling I was going to say no. Jimin pulls out a Manila folder and shoves it towards me, as if before he can hesitate again.
I lock eyes with him for a moment, and he nods towards the folder.
"Just open it. You're in for a surprise, Min Yoongi," he says, almost bitterly.
He sounds like he didn't want for this to happen. Like it's a last resort. I look back to the old, yellow envelope in my hands. Letting a slow breath, I open it up and reach inside. My hand brushes against a thin stack of paper, and I pull out all of it.
And what I pull out makes me freeze, my heart skidding to a stop. Everything is absolutely silent. Everything I thought I knew is obliterated. The paper I hold in my hand changes everything. Everything I ever knew.
"I didn't want to make any of this personal, but your participation on this mission is like really important." Park Jimin's voice is fuzzy, barely audible over the sudden pounding in my ears. "I'll help you find her, Yoongi. You just need to help me on this. This mission for her whereabouts, that's all I'm asking."
All your asking...? I wonder in my head. He wants me to help him and this secret organization that I know nothing about, whether it's benign or something lethal to the world. He wants me to forge an identity and allow myself to be a pawn in whatever game these people are playing. He wants me to act as if this whole "mission" is just a bunch of fun that I've been "dreaming about doing."
And I turn to him. Turn to the young, strange boy who knows where she is.
"Fine," I say quietly. "I'll do it."
