↑↑↑↑↑↑THE COMPUTER screen had dimmed again, but this time, I was too tired to brush my hand over the keypad. My eyes were drooping, and I barely noticed the change.
It's already two am. Why don't you just sleep already?
I was not quite sure. So I ignored my thoughts, forcing myself to wake up.
Maybe I should grab another energy drink.
I whirled around in my computer desk chair to look at my small fridge across my small apartment.
"For such a small apartment. You sure are awfully far away," I told my small fridge.
With a groan, I whirled back around. No energy drinks right now. I had to focus on finishing. I shook my head, slapping the sides of my face to wake myself up.
With a nod, I rested my hands on the key board again, bringing the computer back to life and half-blinding myself. Cursing, I squinted and continued. It shouldn't be much longer; all I had to do was guess my way into the local Gae Min traffic camera system. Simple. Simple.
I yawned.
Then an access granted box appeared and suddenly, I was more awake than I would've been with an energy drink with two shots of espresso.
Letting out a shaky breath, I tapped the final button then proceed to wait.
And waiting was easy. I'd been doing that for the past eight years.
"Come on," I whispered, this time to the computer. "Please."
And then suddenly, results not found.
My heart grew harder. It would be a complete stone soon, and then I'd have to stop looking. After all, how does one search without hope?
I'd been going through the same stupid process for eight freaking years. I was used to it by now.
"You're used to it," I reminded myself aloud.
But I was still angry. Frustration had replaced my sadness long ago. I slammed my useless laptop shut and pushed away from my desk. Feeling exhausted, I could barely flop onto my bed that sat two feet away.
Another failed attempt.
It was as if she didn't even want to be found.
