The sports festival came sooner than I expected. I had been training still on my own, and what few classes us General Studies students got. It was my first chance to be transfered to the hero course. I talked to my teacher and they said if I got a podium there was no way they couldn't transfer me to the hero course. I had filled out the papers so it was fine for me to have my braces, you know so I could stand.
Both Kacchan and I walked up to the microphone to say something because we are the grade reps. It was strange, cause there should only be one, which would be me if it weren't for my strange situation. "I just wanna say, I'm gonna win," Kacchan said, causing a ruckus. I whacked him on the back of the head, and he grunted I to the microphone, gaining everyone's attention.
"Let's all have fun, and may the best one win!" I cheered to off set Kacchan's off putting behavior. There was a mumble in the crowd as we walked back to our classes. The only person in my class to greet me back k was Shinobu who placed a hand on my shoulder. I was shaking from how nervous I was.
" You're gonna do fine," he assured me, "We're gonna beat those 1A losers, and get into the hero program." He out an arm around my shoulder and shook me. "Besides if you don't win, turn back time and do it again." He's been offering to do things like that since I told him my quirk. I just gave him a glare.
"And if we don't we can burn down the cafeteria and frame Bakugou," I commented. He was well aware it was a joke. I have twisted humor. We both shut up and listened to the explanation of the first game. A simple obstacle course, easy. A UA obstacle course, who knows, the teachers probably.
Everyone gathered at the start. I noticed the size of the tunnel we were to go through. It couldn't fit everyone at once, and would obviously cause a jam of students. Once the race started I stayed behind letting the students get stuck. I speed up time on myself just slightly, entering the state of wonky physics and used it to run along the wall above the crowd. I landed on the ground after pulling a sick back flip of the wall and made time on me normal. A few other students got through as well.
I'd say I was in tenth-ish at this point. I didn't want to use my quirk more than nessicary. I felt even pulling what I just did was a bit too much. When came the giant robot that was the zero pointers from the entrance exam I stuck to the side of the path as other students felt with them. Many got passed before me as I needed to wait for the all clear to go.
I rushed to the next obstacle, knowing I needed to do better in order to get into the hero course. I observed how everyone else was getting across. I realized since we never worked on balance I wouldn't be able to walk across easily. I could always just mess with time and get across that way. I got down and shimmied across a rope. Other people ran across, almost shaking me off. Once I finally got to a rock pillar I noticed how far behind I got.
I quickly thought. My quirk felt like the only option. Depending on how I change the time, effects the effect on physics. I quickly needed to figure out which effect would be most useful. The one where I could jump the farthest would be slowing down time. I did it to everything around me, so to others it would appear I was moving faster, which in some way was exactly the same as what I did before. It only took me three jumps to get across rest of the obstacle.
I just got to the last obstacle when I heard the cheering of someone finishing. I felt rushed. I needed to move on. I needed to get into the hero course. I already used my quirk an excessive amount. One more time would be nothing. I froze time and made my way to the finish line, surprising everyone with my appearance in fourth. I laughed to myself, the same place I got in the practical exam.
"Why did you wait so long to use you're quirk you idiot," Kacchan yelled at me. I just shrugged and pushed him away. Like it meant anything to him. I looked at the score board to find Izu-kun got in first, good for him.
"You could have easily gotten in first," Izu-kun came over and told me. He seemed scared, of who I wasn't sure. I was more than willing to be the one he comes to for protection. What else were best friends for?
I shrugged, bending down to check if my braces became loose in my running." But then you wouldn't have," I pointed out with a smile.
While we were waiting for everyone to finish the course we were allowed to wonder the stadium. I went to visit my family. Families of students were allowed to attend for free, some just choose not to because of how busy it is, and that they can watch it on TV. My parents took this opportunity and took my siblings out of school for the day to finally see the show from not standing outside a TV shop.
"Onee-chan!" I heard to voices squeeze. I had just walked out onto the seating area for the families and found mine coming up to me. My siblings were sitting a top my parents shoulders, and they all had a smile on their faces.
"You're doing amazing sweets," Dad commented, patting my head, messing up my piggy tails. "I still can't tell what that quirk of your's is though..." I had yet to tell them what it is. They've known I had one for years, but never pestered me into telling me.
"Oh, Jake," Mom hissed at her husband, " She'll tell us when she's ready." She kind expression turned into one of questioning. "But I would like you to tell me how you found my brother?"
"You told them!?" I snapped at my two siblings, who both hid behind my parent's head.
"I did," a voice said from behind me. I looked back to see Uncle Matsu standing there. I could tell some family drama was going to happen. Luckily I needed to return to the games before much else could proceed.
