"So you're the baby," I summarized as I held my chop sticks in my mouth. Todorki and I had brought our dinners out to a bench looking over the beach, and could see the sun setting over the water.
"I am the youngest, yes," he agreed begrudgingly. We got quiet after that. Our conversation had started by him wanting to know a bit more about my family, like what drove my parents to name me such an observation thing, and what made the going into crime. In turn I questioned him about his family, to a degree.
The conversation sorta died off there. It wasn't awkward, but I still wanted to talk with him. "This isn't anything against you, but your dad's a burning pile of garbage," I don't know what possessed me to say that but there was no taking it back.
"Yeah," he agreed, making me laugh a bit. Most people would get defensive over their parents. Like yo mama jokes exist for a reason.
"Why is that? If you happen to know." I asked setting my chopsticks down with rest of our dirty dishes. He just shrugged. I get it, not everyone can have their parent's psychology down to a T.
With that the conversation met its end. I learned down and picked up my book. I opened it and continued reading. I was a page in when a pressure was applied to my left side. Todorki was leaning down next to me. "What are you thinking about?" he asked me.
"Why doesn't Ron just confess his feelings to Hermione?" I said, knowing he had no idea what I was talking about. "It's from my book." I was talking in a hushed voice, not wanting to break this calm feeling around us.
"What is it about?" he asked, keeping his head on my shoulder. I was blushing as red as the sunset, and his hair. Luckily he couldn't tell.
"Umm," it was the first time anyone has shown any interest in what I liked, even in the slightest. "It's actually the last of a series. It's was the most popular book series before quirks appeared, so it's really old. There are even movies of the book, that I really want to hunt down. But anyways. The series is about this guy, Harry Potter who learns he's a wizard and gose to this wizarding school. But there the big bad who tired killing him when he was a baby but instead killed himself, but he didn't really die and's coming back. " I got embarrassed from the fact to just went on a tangent. Todoroki must have stopped listening one sentence in.
" So who's Ron and Hermione? "he asked. He actually was listening, and taking it in. I felt a little flutter of happiness.
" Harry's friends, or the brains amd comic relief, "I explained," I don't want to bore you, we can talk about something else... "I was a bit insecure of my interests as I usually kept them to myself.
" No, it sounds interesting, "he urged me on, " Are there dragons in it? " I smiled at the face tome one was actually showing interest in something similar to me. I continued to let me talk about Harry Potter until others came looming for us, who got a little confused about the fact Shoto was leaning on me.
After a campfire, where I spent the entire time embarrassing Izu-kun and Bakugou, we went to bed. In the morning we all met up for training. "You'll need a partner for today's training," the teacher retold our class, "Choose someone you usually don't work with." So no Bakugou or Izuku. I looked around to see everyone was claiming eachother as partners. I was frantically looking around for someone I wouldn't mind being partners with, but I felt someone approach me from behind.
I turned to find Shoto walking up to me. He didn't need to say a word for me to understand he wanted to be partners. Teachers then came around and started tying us together. It started with our hands, his left with my right.
We did a simple climbing obstacle course in this state. Neither of us said a word to understand what the other wanted to do. We easily finished it, whole others struggled with it. Bakugou and Kaminari fell from the highest point, causing me to laugh at them.
"You're left handed?" he asked me. We had finsihed the course and were waiting for rest to finish.
"No, it's just that I know you are, and people tend to lead with their dominant hand, so it would be easier for me to use my leg than when you use your right," "I explained my thinking. He didn't reaspond, which I didn't expect him to do.
Next our legs got tied together at the ankle. I was a bit flustered from how close I needed to be to him, but I would get over it. Well I needed to. We were put against another partnership for capture the flag. We were against Izuku and Ojiro. Shoto stepped forward wanting to go on offensive, but I stood my ground wanting to go on defense. "We should go get it before they have time to get ours," he explained.
"But we should get prepared before they come," I stated my argument. We were both stubborn and wouldn't go do the other's plan. Shoto just gave up, and picked me up off the ground. He had his arm around my waist, holding be a good half a foot off the ground. He made and ice path to the oppenent's flag, and slid down it.
We were knocked off the path by Ojiro. I froze time, as to stop us from falling harshly. I made it so I was on my own to feet, as was Shoto, in an awkward position, but on his feet none the less. When I unfriendly time he still had momentum and fell to the ground, bringing me with. Our opponents took our ice path down the feild to the flag and secured their victory as we were struggling to get up.
"Sorry," I apologized, "you were right."Mu stubbornness would be my downfall.
" No you were, we should have protected it until there was an aportunity to act... "we both awkwardly gave each other an apologetic smile. We both needed on working to properly communicate with other's in battle.
