"Mommy I'm tired! Want to sleep!" Mackenzie whined sleepily. I paused my frantic rushing around and turned to look at my two year old. She was sat in the middle of our bed clutching her teddy bear, Mr Cuddles, and tiredly rubbing her eyes. My heart ached at the sight of her, she deserved so much more than I could give her. Slowly, I put down the jumper in my hands and made my way over to sit next to her on the bed.
"Come here princess." I said as I opened my arms and she crawled over to me and settled herself on my lap, burying her face in my jumper. "I know you're tired but we need to go so I need to finish getting all our clothes and things packed and I need you to go and get everything you want to take. I need you to be a big girl and go and get your toys and blankie and bring them to me." I told her softly as I carefully ran my fingers through her long blonde hair.
"I don't wanna go Mommy!" Mackenzie cried as she looked up at me through her eyelashes. I gently reached out and wiped away a tear that was slowly making its way down her cheek with my fingertip.
"I know, I don't want to either but we have to so please Mackenzie, just please go and get your toys." With that she climbed off my lap and shuffled out of the room to go and find her toys. I let out a sigh, ran my hand through my hair and looked around the room; there were clothes thrown everywhere and I didn't know where to start but if we were to be gone by morning I would have to get it all sorted quickly. Slowly, I pushed myself to my feet and picked up the jumper I had been holding earlier before folding it and putting it into the bag then I moved onto the next item. We didn't have that much so hopefully it wouldn't take that long to pack it all, which was good because we didn't have much time.

About 15 minutes later Mackenzie reappeared in the doorway with a handful of toys and her blankie.
"That all of them Kenz?" I asked and she nodded in response. "Good girl. How about you come here and you can have a little nap whilst Mommy finishes getting all our things together and then I'll wake you up when it's time to go, okay?"
"Okay Mommy." Mackenzie tiredly held up her arms and I picked her up and settled her on my hip as I walked over to the bed. When I put her down she snuggled under the covers, clutched Mr Cuddles tightly to her chest and looked up at me. "Why do we have to go?"
"We just do baby, don't you worry about why. Now get some sleep, okay."
"I love you Mommy."
With that she closed her eyes and I leaned down, kissed her forehead and pulled the covers up tightly around her chin, "I love you too, sleep tight."
Once I was sure Mackenzie was asleep I resumed my packing - quietly though to make sure I didn't wake her up, she needed as much sleep as she could get right now because it was going to be a long night and a hard few days. I put aside a coat for each of us and a pair of shoes before I started packing the rest of our clothes. I glanced over at Mackenzie and decided it would be too much hassle to try and get her dressed, she could just travel in her pjs and hopefully that way she'd sleep through as much of the journey as possible. Once all our clothes were packed I moved onto Mackenzie's toys and packed them, some in the bag and some, the ones she loved most including her blankie, went into her backpack. She would have to wear her backpack as I didn't have enough room in the bag to take everything.

Half an hour later it seemed like pretty much everything was packed so I made my way into the kitchen to make us some sandwiches and snacks to take as I knew it would be a long journey and Mackenzie would get hungry at some point. When I was confident that everything was ready to go I decided to do a final check to make sure nothing had been missed: kitchen check, living room check, bathroom check, our room check. Now it was time to wake Mackenzie and it was time to go.
