I had just finished work and I had 45 minutes left before it was time to pick up Mackenzie so I decided to stop and get some food but I also wanted to go somewhere warm and out of the rain. There was a little coffee shop down one of the side streets just off the main road that looked nice and I'd been meaning to try it so I headed in that direction. As soon as I stepped through the door I was hit with a blast of warm air and the aroma of coffee. It was such a difference from the chill of outside. I made my way towards the counter whilst looking at the menu boards that hung above it, trying to decide what I wanted.

"Perrie?"

My eyes snapped downwards at the sound of my name to try and find the person who knew who I was. Nobody around here knew me, it didn't sound like him so I don't think he could of found me but I'd always been so careful to move somewhere where I didn't know anyone and I never told anyone anything. My heart was racing in my chest and I could feel panic settling inside me.

"Jade..." I let out a deep breath I hadn't realised I'd been holding and relaxed when I saw Jade smiling at me from behind the counter. Instinctively, I smiled back at her and every ounce of panic immediately seeped out of my body.

"Hey, how you doing? Crash into anymore people since me?" She teased.

"I'm fine I guess, bit tired though. What about you and no not yet, still just you - you must be special." I replied playfully.

"Yeah I'm good thanks. Got all my uni work finished so for now I'm just chilling. What can I get you?"

"Huh?" I replied. She laughed at the obvious confusion on my face.

"To drink? What do you want? I mean this is a coffee shop so I'm assuming you came in here looking for a drink."

"Oh yeah, sorry. Err can I just have a hot chocolate?"

"Of course, do you want cream and marshmallows or not?"

"Yes please."

"No problem. So... erm... if you're free for a little bit and don't mind hanging around for a couple of minutes it's my break in 5 minutes so we could sit and have a drink and talk and I can tell you some good stuff to do round here? Obviously if you've got somewhere you need to be or you don't want to that's fine - just thought it might be nice." She asked nervously. I could see her hands fiddling with the edge of her apron and I smiled.

"Yeah I'd like that. I need to be somewhere in just over half an hour but a drink sounds good." Jade's face lit up at my response and I smiled wider, I liked seeing Jade smile and I really liked being the one to make her smile.

"I only get a 20 minute break so that's perfect! How about you go find us somewhere to sit, I'd recommend away from the door otherwise it'll be cold every time someone comes in, and I'll bring our drinks over when I start my break? Does that sound okay?" She replied excitedly and her excitement felt contagious. It would be nice to have a proper conversation with someone other than Mackenzie. Kenzie was my entire world but I did miss people my own age and actual proper conversations. It was quite lonely when the only other person who lived in the same house as you went to bed at 7:30, napped for at least an hour a day and had limited vocabulary. She was learning words quicker than I could count though.

"Yeah that sounds fine. I'll see you soon Jade." I told her shyly as I turned away from the counter and scanned the shop for an empty table. I spotted one in the corner, away from the door and headed towards it. Luckily for me it also happened to be near a radiator as well.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when a glass and a slice of cake appeared in front of me. I smiled at Jade as she sat down opposite me and I wrapped my hands around the glass hoping to absorb some of the heat and warm up my hands.
