The Attack

Isaac and I exited the waterfall a while ago but we were seated on a rock in front of it. We were partially dry now, but I still shivered from the coldness of the damp clothing.

Isaac tucked me closer to his body and my shivers lessened.

"How do you picture the future?" I asked him.

"I see you by my side with kids running around, them having your eyes and small round nose. I see you leading with me, ruling as Queen and I as King." He smiled, looking off into the distance as he thought about the vision he created.

"What about you?" He questioned, smiling down at me.

"I see millions of vampires and werewolves making peace with one another, accepting the fact that they are no longer enemies. I see kids being able to run around in the from yard, not having to be afraid of oncoming danger. I see the Alphas coming together and celebrating as leaders." I replied.

He managed a smile but I could see the disappoint that flashed in his eyes.

I hurt him.

I frowned, cupping his cheek with my hand, forcing his eyes to meet mine.

"You didn't let me finish." I said.

"I see you being an Alpha, standing by my side. I see your family laughing with mine. I see you as my mate, but most of all, my husband." My heart raced a little faster when I said the last part.

I had implied that we got married.

I glanced up at him and blushed when I saw desire in his eyes, mixed with love.

"I'm speechless." He whispered and I smiled, pulling his head down to mine.

He instantly responded, deepening the kiss. He rolled us over, laying me flat on the ground beneath him. His hand held my hip as his other cradled my waist, so I was still pressed against him.

My hands found his hair and I tugged on it, making him moan. The hand on my waist moved to my thigh, stroking it. I gasped and he plunged his tongue into my mouth, exploring every inch of it. It was my turn to moan and he growled in approval.

The hand on my thigh moved up, going underneath my semi-dry shirt. Tingles burst across my skin as he trailed his hand up to my bra. His fingers skimmed the underwire, and my breath became ragged when he broke the kiss, running small kisses down the side of my neck.

He hovered above me, giving me one last kiss before withdrawing his hand and pulling away, falling beside me on the rock we were on.

"Why do you do that? You get me all aroused and then you stop!" I growled, my wolf not liking what Isaac was doing.

"I told you, I don't want to finish the mating out here. I want it to be special. You could have told me to stop in the beginning, because I told you before I wasn't going to go any farther." He pointed out and I huffed.

I felt an ache deep within me, to be marked, to be his.

I sighed, sitting up.

"I think it's time to go back anyway." I muttered, standing up.

"Angelina." He said, watching me as I stood.

"I won't be going to the pack house right away, so don't wait for me." I brushed him off.

"Angelina." He called as soon as I started to walk away but I didn't reply, nor did I turn back.

Stupid, stupid, stupid! What if he's just leading me on? What if he's playing me?

No, he can't. He wants it to be special, he said that.

But it's special anywhere, whenever you want to believe it's special. It's not like I'm wanting to hit it and quit it. I want to be marked. I want to be mated.

I sighed, running my hands along the mean surface of the trees.

"Poor, poor pup. I guess it just so happens to be your worst day." A voice broke through my thoughts.

My head snapped up and Ashton, Isaac's father, stood before me.

"You!" I snarled, baring my canines.

"Me!" He mocked and before I knew it, I was seeing black stars.

I stumbled to the side, crashing into the trunk of tree as I tried to catch my balance.

I was struck in the head once more, falling to my knees with a grunt before blacking out.

***************

I turned my head into hard-packed dirt beneath me and moaned. My whole body throbbed like one giant, pulsing opening wound.

I tested my limbs, finding I could move easily enough, though it left a dull ache deep in my bones.

"You are strong."

I opened my eyes. A voice. A man's voice.

"You have lost a lot of blood yet you still live. You merely sleep. Are you awake now?" The voice spoke.

My cheek, pressed against the ground, tasted metallic. The only light was a flickering flame in the far corner of the room.

Dirt coated my lips. I felt a twinge of relief, quickly followed by fear. I didn't recognize where I was, what had happened?

"I'm not dead?" My voice was wavered.

My foggy vision cleared and I saw the silhouette of a broad shouldered man just a few feet away from me. The face of the man was hidden beneath the hood of a cloak, his face too deeply set within the hood for the reddish glow of the flame to touch it.

"I would be deeply disappointed if you were dead, Angelina Kaine." The man replied.

"Where am I?" I attempted to push myself from the floor.

The ache seared me inside. I felt exhausted and empty. Even stranger, I felt hungry.

Hunting. I was going hunting in the woods after my argument with Isaac.

The memory ebbed away as someone strong seized me by the shoulders and jerked me to a sitting position. Another man. His fierce grip slid down to my forearms. The light left behind a reddish-orange glow, causing the glint in his eye to be seen.

I squinted, there was something wrong with the man's mouth. His lips stretched wide over his teeth, but the stench of him-I have never smelled anything so putrid.

"Let me go." I ordered, using my Alpha voice.

I jerked my arms back but winced as the man's fingers became as hard as iron.

"You may, perhaps, be allowed to leave in due time, but that's only if, if, you survive." The cloaked man laughed, and I recognized his voice as Ashton.

The man let out a low growl. As the man's lips drew apart, I tried to back up further, but there was nowhere to go.

Fangs grew from the top and bottom of the mans gums.

No. It wasn't a man. It was some sort of monster.

I shook with fear, I had never seen anything like this.

The creature smiled wickedly, it's eyes reflecting hunger, and it's hand reached forward, titling my head to the side. No matter how much I struggled, the beast won the fight.

"No!" I still tried to escape. "Stop!"

"I told you, you will not mate my son. And mate my son, you will not." Ashton laughed, not a pint of humor in his voice.

The beast snapped it's head forward and punched it's fangs through my neck.
