The hospital was cold, and vacant. Gray shuddered at the memories of his childhood, based in this hospital. He squeezed his eyes shut trying to not picture his mother lying there lifeless.
He heard footsteps approach him, he glanced up to find Natsu. A flood of emotions struck him. "Is she alright?" Gray asked. Natsu nodded, gesturing down the hall.
"This way." He said, walking in that direction. Gray followed closely behind. As they walked, the hallways seemed to get longer, and wider. "Which room is her's?" Gray asked. Natsu pointed to room 626. "That one." He replied.
Gray stood there, Natsu gave him a gentle shove. "It would rude not to talk to her." Natsu said. Gray nodded.
He walked up to the room, and knocked on the door. "Juvia?" He asked, he saw the girl sitting on the bed, her head wrapped in gauze, and the biggest smile on her face. "Hey Gray! Glad to see you!" She greeted cheerily. He shook his head.
"Idiot." He said choking on his words, she looked at him puzzled. "What's wrong Gray?" She asked. Gray looked at her. "You shouldn't have pushed me out of the way, it's my fault you're in here." He said.
Juvia looked at him, as if she's looking for an answer. She looked down at her hands. "Well, I didn't want you to get hurt, you're like my only friend here." She said. He walked over and hugged her.
"You're my only friend as well." He said as she hugged him back. They parted the hug, and talked away. Gray found himself smiling more. A nurse walked in. "Sir, visiting hours are over." He said.
Gray nodded, and looked at Juvia. "See you later, get plenty of rest." He said Juvia nodded. "You make sure, you get rest as well Gray." She replied. He waved goodbye, and left the room.
As Gray left the hospital, he ran into Natsu. "Hey Natsu" he greeted, Natsu waved. "Wanna come over and talk a bit?" Gray asked, Natsu nodded.
After walking home, Gray and Natsu sat in Gray's living room. The silence was deadly, neither boy knew what to say. Natsu found himself staring at an old picture. "You were pretty cute as a child, what happened?" He asked jokingly.
Gray chuckled, and shrugged. Natsu looked at him. "Juvia really never had friends before we moved here, she was always bullied. After Juvia, my brother Gajeel, and I moved here, she smiles a lot more, and sings more." Explained Natsu.
"That's why she was always worried if she made me mad, or if I was annoyed at her. She's Afraid of being rejected." Said Gray, Natsu nodded.
"I know this isn't my place, but Juvia was saying how you seemed lonely in this house. She felt bad about it, so whenever you want you can over and hang." Natsu said.
"I'd love to. Anyways, what's really wrong with Juvia? She seemed sickly when I was talking to her." Gray asked, Natsu scratched his chin.
"She told me, not to tell you. She wants to tell you herself when the time is right." Natsu told Gray.
Gray thought of Juvia sitting in that bed, in that room. Something about it just seemed familiar. Natsu looked at the time. "I've got to go, Gajeel will be angry if I stay out too late." Natsu said standing up. Gray stood up. "Talk to you later man." He said as Natsu walked out the door.
Gray sat back on his couch, thinking. "She can't be sick, she just can't." He rested his head in his hands.
