CHAPTER 3

Maryweather rushed to a corner and slid to the floor.

Darn it! Way to go on being casual, you idiot!

It was no use. She still can't face him. Heaven knows she tried so hard not to feel awkward on the way here, but in the end she lost it! Ugh, bollocks! She can't handle this, she needs to get out of here fast.

Suddenly a hand touched her shoulder which made her shriek.

"Merlin's buttocks! Are you trying to give me a heart attack?!"

"I'm giving you a heart attack? You're the one with an inhuman howl!"

"I do not howl! And if you hadn't scared my wits out of me, I wouldn't have been so jumpy! What do you want anyway?"

Auro looked startled at the question.

What really did he want?

She saw him gulp and wondered if he is going say something or not.

He hesitated for a second before speaking.

"You're going the wrong way."

"H-huh?"

"The drawing room is that way." Gesturing to the corridor behind him. "Remember?"

"Oh, i-is that so? I forgot." She said embarrassed. She began to go around him and walk ahead when a hand clasped around her arm made her stop.

"What- what do you want?"

Merlin's buttocks, could she not stop stuttering? Calm down dammit!

He didn't reply. He just stood there with his blond hair covering his eyes as he looked down to the floor. He better think fast and his hand holding her arm was starting to get sweaty. Hmm...How will he put this in words?

Sigh.

Marigold's goodness, he had never anticipated that talking to his childhood friend would be this hard.

A strained silence passed over them. Neither of them dared to speak.

...

This was starting to get awkward.

...

Okay, it's very very awkward.

...

Any minute now...

...

Silence.

...

*Sounds of crickets chirping at a distance*

"You know..."

"MOTHER OF A PIG!" Maryweather jumped in surprise.

Auro raised his head and looked at her with an amused smile. But the spark in his eyes was gone as fast as it came when his expression turned serious.

"Maryweather, I wish to speak to you..." He removed his hand from her arm.

"Well you are speaking right now aren't you?" She tried to joke.

"It's about what happened," he continued as if she didn't speak. What a rude blockhead. "Three years ago."

She froze. But she tried really hard to keep her face neutral.

"What about three years ago?"

"When you left after our 'talk in the garden', I was-"

What’s this? Maybe he finally fully realized her feelings? Did he, does he feel the same way? Urgh, better not get our hopes too high. But, what if-?

"There you are, my lovelies!"

The tension snapped.

The other two guests wrong-timingly came to the scene.

"I was rather worried that you both might cause ruckus again!" Flora laughed cheerfully.

"Don't worry, I was also disappointed for the lack of brutality myself." Maryweather replied sarcastically before walking ahead.

"Maryweather wait!" Auro called out.

But she didn't reply, didn't even look back.

She just walked away.

Like she did, three years ago.
