Chapter 14: "What are you doing here?"

"Hey Alex!"

"AHH! God dammit! What is wrong with you? Why did you freaking scream?" I shouted at whoever who called me. I was way to preoccupied with that note that I didn't really think about my surroundings.

"Uh, Sorry?" The person, who was apparently Astrid said, "What is wrong with you, dude?" she asked as she rested her arm around my shoulder. "Nothing. Just the fact that my parents are not back home yet!" I answered.

Now that that I think about it, where are them? They didn't even send a text. Why are they not here when I need them... Oh wait! They are never here!

I rolled my eyes at the thought and kept walking with Astrid's arm around me. "I already told you!"

"You told me what, by the way?"

"I didn't?"

"You didn't!"

"Oh well. I tell you now. Umm... If I recall, they send you a letter and said that they would not be able to be back for a few months, I think they also said that the thing they were working on, was more to it and... it would not be easy to solve! Something like that."

I looked at her absorbing all the information she was giving me and smiled as I looked at her tall self. But soon after the smile turned into a questioned look. As if she knew what I was going to ask and said without me asking anything, "Don't ask for the letter! Sam and Daniel kind of-" She looked up, searching for a word, "-Ruined it."

"I don't even want to know anymore!" I added, knowing that if these two idiots were in it, it meant that they had probably did something weird to it. I looked at the arm that was around me and noticed something reddish under her usual black leather jacket, on her skin. Before I could grab it and take a look, we were already at the same boring school.

Both Sam and Daniel were in front of us.

"Hey." Daniel asked, hands in his pockets.

"What's up?" Sam, well, was in his usual cheery self.

"Hey weirdos!" Astrid smiled at them as she took arm off of me, took her phone that had started to ring. She looked at the caller's name with confusion but quickly replaced it with smile. A fake smile.

"I have to go. Talk to you in class!" She steadied her bag pack that was hanging on one of her shoulders and ran inside the school. But just before she ran, she signed?

Why? The times that I see her get calls, she is always signing or having a worried face on. The person on the other side of the line, was definitely not her favourite but she always needs to go whenever that person calls.

"I wonder what is it this time?" Sam asked.

"She must have her own reasons." Daniel said.

"What is it?" I asked, "What are you guys talking about?"

"You see Alex-" Sam started as he started walking too, with Daniel and me by his sides, "We feel like- We don't know if it's true but-"

"We think that Astrid is not telling us something... She is hiding something from us!" Daniel interrupted, making my head turn to him.

I cracked into a laugh and looked at both of them, "Astrid? And lying to you guys? Nope. I don't believe that!" They gave me a flat face. I gave them the same looked but with my eyebrows raised, "Really?" disbelief clearly heard in my voice, "You, guys, don't look like you are kidding so... Are you guys actually sure about this?" I asked.
