Laive
It was a holiday, and a really rare occasion for Laive. No school, no work, and no clinic rotations. Impossible. It took everything in her not to pinch the heck out of herself. She couldn't believe it. Nothing? Really? There was absolutely nothing for her to do today.
Wait.
Her dance students had to attend a parade downtown. After all, being from Louisiana, parade season was the only way to go into Mardi Gras. Did she have to go?
Yes, yes she did.
Throwing her pillow over her head, she released a scream of frustration. Wouldn't it be nice if no one ever needed her? If she had a super power, it would be to disappear or teleport herself. Yep, she definitely wanted to get herself the fuck out of here. Too bad she couldn't do it alone. If she could, she would have been gone a long time ago.
Now, she didn't even have a choice. She was technically homeless. It hurt her heart that she was living somewhere she wasn't wanted. Her parents! How could her own parents not want her there? Positioning herself on her right side, she was cradling her euro sham pillow like a teddy bear. Suddenly, her lips began to quiver.
"Nope. No Laive. Don't you do it," She antagonized herself. "No more crying..."
The notification sound from her phone startled her. Silently, she thanked God for rescuing her from herself in that moment. It was only so much she could take. Why was she feeling sorry for herself? Not today satan. Not TA DAY. The Instagram group chat that Laive and her two best friends from high school had, was filled to capacity with fuckery. They were always cutting up. Each of them had zero chill. Saniye was a Sagittarius, Javeah was a Gemini, and Laive was a Leo. The foolery was real. And from what Javeah had just linked, Laive couldn't hold in her cackle any longer.
"Stop it!"
The tears she wanted to cry trickled down her cheeks, but the irony was that she was smiling from ear to ear. They were so damn silly it was ridiculous. Too bad they couldn't physically rescue her from her reality. Javeah was in the Airforce stationed in London, while Saniye had moved to Lafayette, Louisiana.
Laive: Soooooo. I'm homeless for the New Year 😑🙄
Saniye: What happened
Laive: I PROMISE, when I get to where I'm going, I WON'T EVER LOOK BACK. My mom just came out of nowhere and told me that I have to go. I need to find a full-time job bc I'm going to have to get an apartment.
Saniye: She saying you have to go today?
Laive: No, but hearing it once was enough. All of a sudden, I have to leave as soon as possible. I'm about to pack up and leave tonight. I don't know where I'm going but I'm sick of this shit!
Javeah: WTF?!
Laive: I'M SO PISSED. I feel like my life is repeating itself all over again! I really want to just cry SMDH
Saniye: Maybe you can try to get an overnight shift, I know a place that's really easy to get on at. But if you have to stop school and your clinical rotations Lai, don't do it.
Laive: I literally don't do anything. I clean up behind myself and them 😒 I pay my own bills, I wash clothes, dishes, put up food, take out the trash, and if I don't have money, I don't go anywhere. I don't even ask them for that either. So WTH am I doing that's so terrible? I don't think school will be an option if I have to get a full-time job to take care of my apartment. I'm just going to work and save up until something happens.
Javeah: That's crazy as hell!! And backwards as FUCK! They support the wrong folks in your damn family...It's ridiculous 😒
Laive: I worked three jobs every day in New Orleans to make it happen. And I'll do it again. Whatever. I'm just going to make sure I end the cycle with my children and my family, if I ever have one.
Javeah: I know but it's not fair Lai! That shit hurts me, for real! If you need somewhere to go for the time being, I can talk to my mom. I'm sure she wouldn't mind. You know you're a part of our family! Just let me know!
Saniye: But you shouldn't have to work 3 jobs Lai! WTF?!! Don't work yourself like you did in N.O.!
Laive: Don't make me cry again y'all!! Lol I know it's not fair. I can't complain, it's made me strong as hell! It's definitely taught me to be independent. I have to suck it up and make it happen. If I don't, no one else will do it for me. And it's ok Veah, I wouldn't ask your mom to do that. I'll figure it out, I always do! Just pray that my future works out for the greater good. I got this and me!
Javeah: I love you!! And I know you're going to make it because I have faith in you and I know you got what it takes! You're gonna soar, just keep pushing through!
Saniye: It will all work out!! Even if you have to take a break from school. Delayed not denied honey!! Just make sure to take care of you Lai. I know you! Don't let the lack of support discourage you from accomplishing everything you have set your mind on doing. We love you!
Laive: Thank y'all, thanks for being encouraging! I'm just ready for my fairytale ending! Like what Chapter is this?! But it will all work out. I'll make sure of it. I love y'all
A facetime call was coming through and she answered while inserting her white head phones. Laive squealed when she saw his face! It was one of her close friends from undergrad. He was so over the top and debonair. Definitely one of those fine dressed men whose intelligence and confidence drew everyone in to him. Their history was thick. He vocally engineered and mastered most of Laive's song submissions while they were in school, from her apartment. Being a music artist himself, he had just finished receiving his masters in Mass Comm. The man was fine, tall, and handsome.
There was a point in time where he had wanted Laive to be his. His family loved her, he thought she was gorgeous, and he knew how strong and resilient she was. No matter what she was going through, her smile was constant. Laive wasn't going for that. The girl was too focused. She had never been in a serious relationship before and wasn't looking to be in one.
"I'm just trying to get into med school. I'm focused right now, so no dating for me. Maybe when I'm 25. Besides you're not really my type."
It crushed his heart when she friend zoned him, but he couldn't be mad. If Laive wasn't anything else, she was always honest. Javeah and Saniye knew she could be rude as fuck. It was no different with him. He just didn't expect for it to come at him the way it did. He was not ready...
