Huey laid in his bed, thoughts rolling in his mind like a skating rink. No matter what, he couldn't get Jazmine out of his head. He's hurt her when she's already been put down, and that's unforgivable. And now she has a boyfriend, who doesn't mind her muteness and helps her so much with her baking. He's even invested some money so she could own her own bakery and hire her own employees. And his name was Derek. The same guy she met at the hospital before Tom's death. Why does it even concern Huey that Jazmine now has love? It's not like he's ever loved her..did he? He got up slowly, moving around in bed all day stressing would cause his Afro to shrink. He scratched the back of his head as he entered a room he hadn't truly explored yet. It was an art room. Filled with Art. Who's painted these? He picked up a sketchbook, and blew the dust off of it. These drawings were remarkable, there was one with him in it. And the rest were just drawn to look like graffiti art. When he looked up from the sketchbook, he saw the big drawing of all 3 of them. Together. "You know it ain't nice to snoop around don't chu nigga?" a voice said.
Huey jumped, looking back to see Riley standing there. The tension burning the room, the two of them were still broken. Even if they didn't wish to admit it. Huey was the first to break the silence. "Sorry, I was just looking." Huey said quietly.
Riley rolled his eyes, sitting down in his swivel chair, clearly a lot on his mind."What were you doing in here anyway?"
"It was better for me to get out of bed than to continue moping around." He stated, scratching his afro as he continued to stare at the paintings on the wall. There was one with him, Jazmine, and Cindy. Just what he needed to see, another image of her. "Can I ask you something?"
"What mane?" Riley asked rather annoyed.
"Does Jazmine seem..happy with that Derek guy?" he blurted.
Riley thought for a moment, until nodding. "Yeah. She is. Why mane? You jealous?"
"No. Just curious." Huey answered truthfully, or what he thought was the truth. Until he thought of something. "Remember Mom and Dad?"
Riley froze in his seat. Sighing before answering. "What about em?"
"You know the stories they used to tell us, about the stars?" He asked quietly, remembering the stories their mother and father told them about the stars. How each star is someone special. Where you can find passed loved ones. That way you can see that they are with you forever.
Riley nodded. "Yeah. I was 5 and you was 7 when they told us that story. And that's when Ma said they'd be the brightest stars out in the sky."
"Her confidence shows in you, you know that right?" Huey said, trying to take the time to bond with his little brother.
"And you're just like Dad." Riley responded.
Huey smirked. "We both know I'll never live up to his standards. He was great."
Riley chuckled. "Then I'll never meet up to Ma's standards."
"You already have dumby. Just look at yourself." Huey said, turning to face his brother who rolled his eyes.
"Whatever you say." Riley scoffed.
"Do you think they're up there?" Huey asked.
Riley hesitated before nodding. "I believe they are."
For once, Huey shed a tear. "I miss them."
Riley looked at him, sliding his swivel chair beside him and resting his hand on his shoulder. "I miss em too."
Huey took a deep breath as Riley continued. "But aye man, we gotta keep going. For their sake."
The both of them shared something they thought they'd never do.
The two broken brothers, embraced eachother. Like they did when they were younger.
