Nothing is fair? What does she mean by that. Never mind that, I'll just let that one slide.
"Hailey!!!! Wake up!!" I shook her.
"What..." Hailey groaned.
"We're going to be late!!!" I threw a pillow at her.
"What?!" she shouted.
"It's seven-thirty already, get your butt off of the bed and get in the shower!" I said.
She sprang out of bed, grabbed her clothes from her suitcase and ran into the bathroom, in a matter of seconds I heard the shower turned on. Wow, that was fast.
I grabbed my things and went downstairs. Mom and dad weren't in the kitchen anymore. What? They went to work and din't even bother to wake me and Hailey before leaving?
I heard footsteps coming down the stairs as I toasted two pieces of bread. Hailey flung her bag onto the couch and grabbed OJ from the fridge. "Alarm didn't go off again?" She grinned at me while putting bread into another toaster beside me.
I sighed and nodded. "Stupid phone." My bread popped out of the toaster and I placed it on a plate and went to the table.
"How's your history project? We haven't even started ours yet." She said from the kitchen.
I placed some peanut butter on the bread. "We're already done with the research, which is a good thing. Now all we need to do is to design the board."
"Man, you guys are fast. Let me guess, only you and El are doing the work." She said as she took a seat beside me.
I shook my head and went to the fridge to grab milk. "Surprisingly, no, Dylan was actually a big help to us." I sat back down.
"Huh, never thought Dylan could actually be a big help to anyone. From what I heard in the hallway, he causes trouble everywhere he goes." Hailey said as she placed strawberry jam on her bread.
I finished the bread in four bites and gulped down my OJ. I put down the glass and wiped my mouth with the tissue on the table. "Well, I used to also believe those rumors."
Hailey finished her bread and finished the OJ. "Until?"
I shrugged. "Until, he became our project partner, I guess he's different outside school than when he's inside." I said as I grab my bag from the couch.
"He's so weird, but in a good way." Hailey said, grabbing her bag too.
"How in a good way?" We walked out of the front door and walked a little faster.
She shrugged. "I mean, normally, people are plastic. But Dylan, he's the exact opposite. Mean in front of others, but less mean behind other people's backs."
"He said it's about his stupid rep, I still don't get how though."
We reached school in a matter of eight minutes, it was already five minutes before class starts once we reached school.
A thought hit me. "Hailey?"
She faced me. "Yeah?"
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. "What did you mean when you said 'nothing is fair' last night? I'm just curious..."
She scratched the back of her neck. "Well, I just meant that life isn't fair. It has it's ups and downs but we can't avoid it. Everything happens for a reason, but sometimes, people just hate the reason, they hate to face reality." She said the last part somehow coldly.
"Are you okay? You seem a bit...off." I said, worried.
She shook her head. "It's just my friend back home. Her mother has cancer and I don't know what to do to help her. Comforting her is useless, I feel useless whenever I can't seem to make her feel better."
