I heard a nasty cough coming from the other side of the room, causing me to wake up. I looked to my left an saw a terrible looking Hailey on her bed. I got up from my bed and felt her forehead, I immediately pulled back my hand. "Hailey, your burning up."
"I know, I feel terrible." She said through a runny nose and a hoarse voice.
"Must be effects from the party last night." I said going to my bathroom to grab a thermometer.
"Doubt it, I only drank a few cups."
"Then you partied too hard last night, you used up all of your energy by jumping and thrashing around on the dance floor."
"It's called dancing cuz, look it up."
I came out of the bathroom, holding a battery-powered thermometer in my hands. "Here put this under your arms." I gave her the thermometer.
"What time is it?" She said trying to look for the clock.
"10 in the morning, honestly, I would've slept till lunch time if it weren't for your cough."
"Then you should thank me for the wake up call."
"Want me to make you chicken soup? It made El feel better when she was sick." I offered.
She nodded and lied back down on her pillow. "Thanks, I might need something to eat." The thermometer beeped. She pulled it out and looked at the temperature, her head fell back on the pillow, she groaned. "Ugh...40.2....bummer..."
I heard my mom call me from downstairs, I turned to Hailey. "Mom's calling me, I'll check on you later." I said leaving the room.
I reached downstairs and saw mom and dad talking to a woman, brown hair and a little shorter than dad but taller than mom by a few inches, she had blue eyes. Next to her stood a little boy, probably at the age of 8, he looked a bit like the woman except for the hazel brown eyes, he stood beside her, staring at his feet. The woman was my dad's younger sister, we haven't seen each other in a while.
"Oh, there's Steph. Dear, you remember my sister, Marie." My dad said once he saw me.
I nodded. "Yeah, we used to always go to your house during the summer, Aunt Marie." I told the last statement to my aunt.
"I still remember those times, how's Axel and Elena doing?" She asked.
"Their fine, still the two bickering kids you used to always see."
She laughed. "Glad to see you guys haven't changed one bit. Anyway, this is my son, Scott." she said gesturing to the little boy beside her, he waved back shyly.
I crouched down so I was on eye level with the boy. "Scott, Where'd you get your name?" I smiled at him.
He scratched his head. "I don't know to be honest, my parents said they got my name from something sweet, I think butterscotch, then they made it Scott instead. I like it, it's sweet and sticky have you tasted it before?" He asked the last sentence excitedly.
"I think I might have." I shrugged.
"Well, I'll give you some, I got a lot in my house. My mom told me to stop eating first because she said I might break my teeth." He smiled, showing a missing front tooth.
"Sounds fun." I joked.
"You two seem to be getting along already." My mom laughed.
"John, can Scott stay here for at least a week? I need to go on a business trip and there's no one in the house to take care of him." Aunt Marie asked my dad. Her husband left her 5 years ago which was also the last time I've seen Aunt Marie too. I remembered Aunt Marie having a child that time but I didn't know the name, must be why I didn't know Scott.
