March 1st
I sighed as I looked at the calendar. It had been a long three and a half months with Marlene. Our relationship was going okay so far, but it still wasn't what I wanted.
These past few months Marlene and I had been spending planning for the baby, though we have yet to come to an agreement on anything. Marlene was the first to suggest we look for a place of our own for when we aren't at Hogwarts. "You're seventeen and I'll be seventeen in about a month, we need to live together, Sirius." I remember her saying this as we looked at baby names in a book Marlene borrowed from her sister. But I didn't agree with her in the slightest. I had no money and no job to be able to afford a place of my own and Marlene was the last person I would want to live with. But ultimately, I knew it would come to this.
My relationship with Remus has suffered greatly due to me being with Marlene. We hardly speak anymore. When we do, it's tense and awkward.
Over Christmas I spent my time with the Potters. Mr. and Mrs. Potter have both taken me under their wing and even offered to let me stay with them over summer break. I would definitely rather take them up on their offer than take Marlene up on hers.
Lily and James started dating about a month ago. Lily finally gave in to James and I could tell she was just as happy as James was about it. I'm glad I made that deal with Lily that day, at least something good came out of it.
I sat waiting for Marlene in the Great Hall. She had wanted to go on a date today, but there wasn't another Hogsmeade weekend for a couple weeks. Instead, she decided that we go for a walk, and to keep the peace, I agreed. I was tired of arguing with her all the time. After getting back together, things quickly went back to the way things were before. Constant arguments, lying, and accusations were a part of everyday. There is no trust between us anymore. I hate to think that this is what I'm going to bring my son into.
"Sirius!" Marlene exclaimed excitedly. I don't understand how she can be angry with me one minute but excited to see me the next. "Ready?" I ask her. She nods, smiling. I begrudgingly take her hand as we walk outside. "I have an appointment on Monday," Marlene smiles as she holds a hand to her flat stomach. It's so strange to think there's a baby growing in there when there's no bump. "Can I come?" I ask as I always do. "Sirius, I've told you before, if you come then Dumbledore will send a letter to your parents." I sigh, knowing this would be her answer. As much as I wanted to say I didn't care if my parents knew, I know that I did care. I don't want my parents to have any involvement in my sons life.
"Can I see him again?" I ask as we make our way to the other side of the lake from the school. Marlene nods with a smile, "of course." We find a spot to sit down as Marlene lifts her shirt to expose her stomach and points her wand at it. "Engorgio," she says softly and I watch as her stomach grows. With only a month until the baby's due, her stomach is very large.
I hesitantly place my hand on her stomach, trying to feel for a kick. "Just give him a minute," Marlene whispered as we waited for the baby to move. I suddenly felt a kick as I moved my hand a bit," he moved!" I exclaimed excitedly. Being able to feel my son move made it feel more real. These past few months I have started to feel a little excited to have a baby, but I still knew I wasn't ready for one.
I was scared to think of how this would turn out for him. Marlene and I had no money, no jobs, and we had a horrible relationship. How are we supposed to take care of him. Every time I mentioned this to Marlene, she would blow me off and say we'd figure out something. But I didn't want to just figure things out along the way. I want to have a plan.
"Yeah, he did," Marlene smiled and nodded. "We still don't have a name for him," I said as I took my hand away. "Yeah, I know. We need to figure that out soon." I nodded, I really didn't know what to name him. "James wanted us to name the baby after him," I said with a chuckle, remembering the conversation. Marlene let out a laugh too," so not happening." I nodded, for once agreeing with her.
"What about Andrew?" I shake my head, not liking the name. "Okay, well how about Will?" I shake my head again,"reminds me of that annoying kid in potions." Marlene lets out a sigh," well do you have any suggestions?"
"John?" I throw out the first name that comes to mind. I've always liked the name, though I'm not sure why. Marlene thinks for a minute,"I like it." This took me by surprise. We rarely ever come to an agreement on anything. "John Black." Marlene smiles as the words leave her lips. Only after we agree on the name do I realize why I like it.
It's Remus' middle name.
