Lucy's POV
"Ssshhh... Calm down Julie I'm here please just stop crying" I whisper at 1:30am. Why did every adult in the house have to leave me? I think as I continue to rock her. I feel the tears pricking at my eyes. I'm an awful cousin... I think to myself. Then a thought hits me. I could get in touch with Riker. We had been texting all afternoon. I place the still sobbing child on my hip and grab my phone. I find his number and call it.
"Hello?" a very tired Riker asked
"Riker... I'm sorry to wake you at 1:30 in the morning but I can't get Julie to stop crying. I really need help" I say as my voice cracks near the end.
"What's your address?" He asks
"12 Avenue Road" I answer.
"I'll be there soon. Hang tight" he says before hanging up.
~10 minuets later Riker's POV~
I knock on the door and it swings open to reveal a guilty looking Lucy.
"I'm so sorry for dragging you out this early but I couldn't think of anyone else" she say as I enter the house and she closes the door. I could hear Julie screaming from upstairs.
"Poor thing" I whisper as we enter the living room and Lucy takes her in her arms. "Here let me try" I says softly. She passes Julie over to me I sit on the couch and rock her while singing a lullaby to her which I sing to Madison. After about two or three minuets she is sleeping quietly in my arms.
"Here room is the first soor on the left" Lucy says. I stand and quietly take the sleeping child into her room and lay her in bed before pulling the cover over her. I silently close the door and make my way back downstairs. I notice Lucy sitting on the couch with tears streaming down her face. I sit next to her and move her onto my lap.
"What is it Lucy?" I softly ask as I stroke her hair.
"How can I be a mother if I can't even look after my cousin for one evening?" She sobs into my chest.
"It takes time. I remember that I was teriffied about looking after Madison" I reply
"Is someone with her?"
"One of her uncles"
"Do you maybe want to... Ummm... You know... Stay the night?" she asks before blushing.
"Only if you are comfortable with it" I say softly. She stands and silently takes my hand before leading me up to her room. She hands me a pair of pajama pants and I change in the bathroom. Just as I am about to climb into the bed with her my phone goes off.
"Hello?"
"Riker it's Ross"
"What's up?" I ask as Lucy looks at me.
"Please don't hate me"
"What happened?" I ask feeling the fear rise in my system
"Madison is gone"
