We are in the woods blind, tired, and scared.
We have been running in here for awhile now and I hear Lilly's breaths getting deeper and we are getting slower.
I stop us.
"Why are we stopping? Shouldn't we keep running?" I would have never thought that would come out of Lilly's mouth.
"We need to catch a breath." Lilly nods while put the bag on the ground and bend over and put my hands on my knees. Lilly does the same.
I'm surprised that neither of us has collapsed yet but I give credit to running away all the time. The adrenaline rush helps too.
It wasn't a couple of minutes of resting until we heard a snap.
I quickly sling the bag over my shoulder and grab Lilly's hand and we start running again.
Luckily we never run into any trees considering how blind we basically are.
I start to see light which means we are almost out of the woods. Our run is slower than usual but no zombies catch up to us, which is terrific.
We exit the woods and it's brighter out here because there are no trees to block the moonlight. There is a river in front of us and a bridge for cars couple of ways down the river.
"We have to cross." I announce.
"But why? Can't we just go to the bridge and head towards the city?"
I think for a little bit.
"No, we can't go to the city." Lilly is going to hate me for this.
"Why can't we go to the city? There will be people to save and help us."
"I hate to break it to you but there is no one in the city."
"How do you know that?"
I don't. "Because, where do you think these zombies came from? Certainly not out in the country to where there are only three houses within ten miles." Lilly looks down.
"So come on, let's cross the river." I say.
Lilly could be right about there being people in the city. But why take the chance. Not one car has passed on the bridge, so that should tell you something.
I move closer to the edge of the river and look back at Lilly. She is just staring at the water. I hope she isn't having one of those moments again.
"Lilly come on." I urge her.
"I can't." She says while stuttering.
At that moment I remembered what happened a couple years ago that would make her scared of water. I have to prove to her that it's not dangerous.
I put the bag down and step into the water.
The water is warm but on the cooler side, which is nice considering it's the middle of summer and we've been running a lot. The water only comes up to my knees which will more than likely come up to the middle of her thighs. I turn around and spread out my arms to show her it's safe.
"See it's not even deep. So come on in, I'll help you." I hold out my hand for her. She's hesitant but she grabs my hand. I lead her down into the water while she has her eyes closed.
"You can let go of my hands now." I chuckle and she opens up her eyes and yelps.
"It's cold!"
"No it's not." I laugh at her. "See the water isn't so bad." I grab the bag and throw it over my shoulder and make sure it won't touch the water.
"Stay exactly behind so if the water gets deeper you will know." She nods and stays exactly behind me.
We manage to cross it without complications. We get out and luckily we were wearing shorts so the water didn't get on my clothes. The bottom of Lilly's shorts got wet though. We will more than likely get blisters on our feet since we weren't thinking to take off our socks and shoes.
"So that wasn't so bad." I smile. She shakes her head while smiling as well. "We have to keep moving though. Okay?" She nods whiles grabbing my hand and we start running back in the woods.
We are once again blind and surrounded by strange sounds.
After running for a while, not knowing where we are heading towards, I see a faint light in the distance. I stop us and look at Lilly. She has a shocked face, so do I but i think it's a happy shocked face.
We run towards the light.
We are out of the woods again and in front of our faces is a house.

*Authors Note*
I hope you guys are enjoying this story. Sorry about for taking FOREVER to update but I had writers block. I hate to say this but expect that to happen a lot. Sorry. I'm not a writer at all.
This is the last chapter that I had pre-written and got deleted, which was actually two chapters. And like I said before the previous written one was a lot better but this one I think isn't too bad. Plus I combined two chapters to make it longer.
I will fix the cover sooner or later.
Please vote & comment if you want :)
Thank you for reading.
