Chapter Five
One Month Later...
Martin Truex, Jr. stepped off the plane and smiled. Thank God, the off season was over, as much as he’d enjoyed some time off, he’d gotten really bored just sitting around.
He’d enjoyed some time back home in Jersey with his family around Christmas, his mind registering the fact that when he was in Jersey, he really wasn’t that far away from Brynne.
Over the past month, he and Brynne had talked about anything and everything, still straying from who he was. She had yet to give in and believe him about who he really was, so he tended to stay away from the topic.
Piling into the rented Suburban he had for the duration of his stay down in Daytona during Speedweeks and all the festivities leading up to and proceeding, he couldn’t wipe the smile off his face.
He was in Daytona. He was racing full time in the Cup Series this season. And the long, godforsaken off season was finally over.
It was time for him to do what he did best, once again. And that was definitely to race.

MTJ: Ever been to Daytona Beach?
FutureMrsTruexJr: No. Why?
MTJ: Well, you should. It’s beautiful and hot, and perfect. I’m going to tell everyone they should come down here.
FutureMrsTruexJr: I’ll have to make it down there eventually.
MTJ: The sooner, the better.
Brynne stared at the computer screen, a slight frown on her face. Even after nearly two months, she was still wary of his intentions, motives, who he really was. And what exactly he wanted with her.
No matter how much she tried to push the wariness about him aside, she couldn’t help it. She knew hardly nothing about him, except for the stuff he’d supposedly told her about himself.
And even that she couldn’t trust, because all that information was like reading an online biography on Martin Truex, Jr.
She knew he loved to fish, hunt, hang out with his friends, race. He loved music, movies, being a normal twenty four year old guy, and seeing his family. But, for all she knew, that could all be manufactured into making her think he was someone he really wasn’t.
MTJ: You still there?
FutureMrsTruexJr: Yeah. Sorry, I kind of dazed off for a minute.
MTJ: No problem.
MTJ: Just thought you’d fallen asleep on me or something.
FutureMrsTruexJr: If I go to sleep, I’m screwed. I have to be to work in like an hour.
MTJ: I don’t have to work for another day or two :P
FutureMrsTruexJr: Shut up.
Absentmindedly, Brynne brushed her hair from her face, and looked around her cold, dark, empty apartment. Empty except for her, the dog and her computer. Sure, she had a computer and she had pictures of her and her friends, but other than that it wasn’t really much of a home, not for as much as she inhabited it.
MTJ: Am I boring you?
FutureMrsTruexJr: Huh? What?
MTJ: We just didn’t say anything for like ten minutes. That’s never happened before.
FutureMrsTruexJr: Oh, sorry. I just kind of zoned out again, must be because I’m tired.
MTJ: Well, go get some sleep then.
FutureMrsTruexJr: Yeah, I think I’m going to. I’ll talk to you soon.
MTJ: Probably tomorrow, I’ll be on.
FutureMrsTruexJr: How do you know I will be, though?
Brynne watched the screen for a moment, waiting for his answer to that one. She really wasn’t trying to bait him, just be mysterious.
MTJ: You always are online every night.
