Chapter Two
MTJ: Who is this?
Brynne rolled her eyes at the screen; what was it with people sending other people a message and asking who they were? They, after all, were the person who sent the message in the first place.
FutureMrsTruexJr: I could ask you the same thing.
MTJ: I asked you first.
So, she thought, he’s quick on the comeback, too.
FutureMrsTruexJr: But you’re the one who messaged me first.
MTJ: I don’t know who you are, though.
FutureMrsTruexJr: Why send me a message then? If you didn’t know me, why send one?
MTJ: You were on my list, and I wanted to know how you got on there... I haven’t added you.
Brynne felt her temper about ready to explode. Whoever this was, they knew how to press her buttons real good. Especially after the night she’d had at work.
FutureMrsTruexJr: I have no clue how I got added to your list, it is, after all, your buddy list.
Martin scowled at his computer screen. He’d only sent the person a message to find out who they were, and why they’d popped up on his buddy list, though he was pretty sure he already knew. He’d never meant to start a fight, but her defensiveness confused him.
MTJ: I didn’t mean to start anything with you, I only wanted to see how you’d gotten on my buddy list, but I think I already know.
Intrigued, Brynne frowned slightly.
FutureMrsTruexJr: And how is that exactly? Clue me in here, because I’m confused as all hell at the moment.
MTJ: Yeah, you and me, both.
MTJ: But that’s beside the point.
FutureMrsTruexJr: Yeah.
She wished he’d just get on with the explanation, because frankly, she wasn’t in the mood for anyone to be pulling her chain.
While she didn’t necessarily know that that was what he was doing – if it even was a he in the first place – she found herself getting easily frustrated.
MTJ: Anyway...
MTJ: I think my best friend probably added you.
MTJ: He likes to play head games with me a lot.
FutureMrsTruexJr: Whose your best friend and I can tell you whether you’re right or not.
MTJ: Um...
At his reluctance to answer her right away, like he’d been doing the rest of the conversation, Brynne rolled her eyes. Obviously, “he” was lying, if he couldn’t even give her a straight answer as to who this “best friend” was.
FutureMrsTruexJr: As stimulating as this conversation is, I had a long, long night at work, and I’m tired and not in the mood to deal with people who are obviously making stories up.
MTJ: What are you talking about?
Brynne once again rolled her eyes. It seemed to be a trend with whoever this was.
FutureMrsTruexJr: You.
FutureMrsTruexJr: Your reluctance to answer my question when I asked who your best friend was, is an obvious sign to me that you are lying about this whole thing.
FutureMrsTruexJr: Just making things up to try and get me to tell you who I am.
MTJ: No, it’s really not.
MTJ: I really think my best friend is the one who added you to my list.
FutureMrsTruexJr: Then who is your best friend? I’ll tell you if I know them or not.
She was met with silence.
FutureMrsTruexJr: See? Silence. Silence means lying.
MTJ: Fine...
FutureMrsTruexJr: Hesitance... don’t just make some name up to appease me.
MTJ: Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
The quiet apartment erupted in a fit of laughs as she read what the person had last said. And it just kept coming, her body seemingly not able to fit the laughing fits off.
FutureMrsTruexJr: Dale, Jr.?
MTJ: Yes.
FutureMrsTruexJr: You actually expect me to believe that?
MTJ: Yes, because it’s the truth.
FutureMrsTruexJr: Sure, to every single person out there who has fantasies of knowing Dale, Jr. and getting girls because of it.
FutureMrsTruexJr: Sorry buddy, I ain’t buying it, and there’s no way you’re getting me. Not with that line.
Martin frowned at the computer. He should have known she wouldn’t believe him. Hell, if he’d been in her shoes, he wouldn’t have believed it, either.
It was just too easy to say something like that, especially since it really did work to get girls. He should know, before he got popular, he’d used it to get himself a couple.
MTJ: I’m really not lying.
FutureMrsTruexJr: Sure. Still not believing it.
FutureMrsTruexJr: Next thing I know, you’ll be telling me you’re actually Martin Truex, Jr.
MTJ: Well, actually...
Laughing even harder, Brynne blinked at the screen a few more times, and couldn’t believe what she was reading. She was not talking to Martin Truex, Jr. It just wasn’t possible. As she’d said to the person, it was just some fan trying to get
some girls by claiming to be Martin and know Dale.
FutureMrsTruexJr: Yeah, I’ll believe that when hell freezes over, and pigs fly...
FutureMrsTruexJr: You could try again as to who you are and how you got my screen name.
FutureMrsTruexJr: But then again, I’m exhausted after the day I had to deal with today, and so not in the mood to deal with psychos who try to say they’re someone they’re not.
FutureMrsTruexJr: So forget that.
Before he could say anything else to her, she’d signed off, and he stared at the computer blankly once again. He shook his head and muttered, “Damn you, Junior...”

Brynne couldn’t stop the laughter, even after she’d signed off and reread the conversation. Grabbing for the phone, she dialed Julie’s number, knowing she’d still be up, since she had just been talking to her online before she’d logged off.
More than likely Julie was wondering what the hell was going on, after the last thing Brynne had said to her before signing off.
“Hello?”
“You’re never going to believe this shit...”
“Well hell to you too, Bry... but what shit is this that I’m not going to believe?”
Brynne laughed once again, before sobering up enough to tell Julie the story. She told her all about the guy who’d IMed her, asking who it was. How she’d turned it back to him, and finally what he’d told her.
“So he told me his best friend was Dale, Jr. And I so didn’t believe him, but he seemed adamant about it. And finally I go, ‘next thing I know, you’ll be telling me you’re Martin Truex, Jr.’ And guess what he said?”
“What?” Julie demanded.
“That he fucking was Martin! And I just started laughing.”
“You don’t believe him?”
“Hell no!” Brynne exclaimed, “There’s too many guys out there who would say shit like that to get chicks, and you know it... besides, how creative would MTJ be for a screen name?”
Julie thought for a minute, “Non-creative, or so simple that no one would ever think about it.”
“Still... I don’t believe him. Not for a minute. Or, at least, not until he proves otherwise, and I highly doubt that’ll happen.”
“Well, you never know Bry, you just never know...”
