Chapter Twelve
The next movie the guys got to pick, and from amid all the horror and so called “guy” movies, the two of them agreed upon Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and quickly popped it into the DVD player. Julie and Brynne figured it could have gotten a lot worse than what they were watching.
Throughout the movie, Martin and Brynne somehow ended up closer together on the couch, until at one point Brynne leaned her body against Martin’s with his arm still sprawled across the back of her neck. Plain and simple, she was comfortable.
By midway through the movie, the jetsetting and traveling of the last couple of days got the best of Brynne, and she fell asleep with her head resting half on Martin’s shoulder and half on his chest.
His arm dropped down around her shoulders, pulling her closer to his side and intermingling their fingers together.
She sighed in her sleep, feeling the safest she’d felt in a long time.

By the end of the movie, Martin was no longer paying attention to what was going on on the screen; Brynne’s slow and steady breathing had captivated his gaze, and for the last hour, he’d sat there watching her sleep like it was the most thrilling thing in the world.
To him, it was.
He’d never before seen someone so peaceful and calm, and the fact that he was one of the main reasons for it amazed him even more.
When the credits rolled and Josh and Julie stood up to stretch out their tired limbs, they both looked over at Brynne asleep on Martin’s shoulder.
“Well, I guess someone was a little tired,” Josh said, as Julie nodded.
“She’s had a couple days worth of traveling and we didn’t get much sleep last night before we left early this morning,” Julie explained.
“Is your car outside the coach?” Martin asked. Julie nodded. “I’ll carry her out there, then.”
Julie and Josh led the way out of the coach ahead of Martin, opening the doors for him so he wouldn’t have to struggle with a still sleeping Brynne.
After, he set her in the passenger’s side of the car and buckled her seatbelt because she obviously couldn’t do that.
“You guys will be here tomorrow, right? Venture around and see what practice and stuff is like?”
“Yeah, sure,” Julie nodded, “What time should we be here?”
“Um... practice is at...” Martin looked to Josh, not knowing what time it was at.
“Eleven.”
“Okay, practice is at eleven, so be here around nine and we’ll have breakfast or something before I have to be down in the garage.”
“Okay, we’ll be here then.”
“Tell her I had fun today,” Martin said, quietly.
Julie smiled slightly and nodded, “I’ll be sure to do that.”
The entire ride to the hotel was quiet, and not as long as it’d taken before, because there was hardly no traffic this late at night.
When she pulled her car into a parking spot outside the hotel and shut the car off, she turned in her seat and couldn’t believe that Brynne was still asleep, not to mention had stayed asleep the entire time Martin had carried Brynne out.
“Brynne,” she said quietly, gently shaking her shoulder, “Hey Brynne, wake up!”
Brynne moved slightly, opening her eyes and trying to take in her surroundings. “Where are we?” she asked, sleepily.
