STEF'S POV
Tonight was the night Lena and I were celebrating my promotion with our friends. As usual, she took much longer than me while getting ready.
"Honey, have you seen my mascara?" She yelled from our bathroom.
I huffed. "No, love, you know I don't wear these things."
She sighed in frustration still looking for her mascara. "Well, then, I don't know-"
"Baby, you can do without it. Please, let's just go, Jenna's already pissed we're taking so long."
Lena kept looking for it desperately as I texted Jenna back.
"Fine," she gave in, clearly still upset. "I just hate going somewhere and feel like there's something missing." She moved on to putting her shoes on, a bit annoyed at my lack of patience.
"I know, and I'm sorry. But you don't need that crap, you're beautiful without it."
"Stef, I really wish you would understand that it's important to me. I know it doesn't define me as a woman, I know that make up doesn't make me more of a woman- I just wish you'd understand that it's important to me."
I was taken aback by the whole speech; I couldn't understand why Lena was so nervous.
"I- I'm sorry. Look, let me go try to help you find it." I offered.
"No, it's- it's fine. Let's just go."
I was puzzled but didn't make any comments. I surely didn't want our night to be ruined over something so small.
We made our way to the car and I started driving us to Jenna's.
"Are you ok, Len?" I asked, truly concerned.
"I'm fine." I heard her say in a calmer tone.
"Are we good?" I pushed.
"We are," she said, glancing at me and giving me a small smile.
I smiled back and grabbed her left hand, bringing it to my lips and kissing it.
"I'm really proud of you. I'm just- some things I need to deal with."
"What's going on? Baby, you can tell me."
"I know, I will. Just- not now." She grabbed my hand and gave me a reassuring smile. "Now we're going to our friends' house to celebrate your success."
I grinned at her. "That doesn't mean you're not allowed to have issues. It also doesn't mean I can't help you with them."
"Baby. Drop it, please. We'll talk later, okay?" Lena insisted.
"Ok, you got it." I said.
A few minutes later, we arrived at Jenna and Kelly's. They both commented on how great we looked and congratulated me for getting a promotion.
"Damn, you two. Lena looks like an actual model," Kelly complimented my girlfriend.
"Thank you, Kelly, you're beautiful as well," Lena said politely.
"I know, she's gorgeous. Even got upset because she didn't find her mascara-" I said.
"Oh please," Jenna dismissed my comment.
