AN: hello!! Look who's finally back? I do have some things I wanna clear out before you get into this chapter though:

1- For so long I've wanted to get a chapter of this story out but nothing seemed good enough to be posted. This year I've finally decided to just get something out then, instead of hesitating so much about it.

2- I'm writing a new story. It's called AGAIN, a Bette and Tina (The L Word) AU but I hardly get any feedback on that. If you like this universe, please give this story a shot. I'd love to read your comments on this new project too.

3- Thank you again for still reading, still supporting and still being here. That means the world to me! And I also wanted to wish you a happy new year, filled with amazing opportunities and possibilities for all of you — and hopefully no COVID!

Stef's POV

"Shit!" I cursed as I realized what time it was and how late I was for work.

Lena was just finishing her breakfast in the kitchen when I found her, all dressed up for work, while I was still wearing pajamas.

"Why didn't you wake me up? I'm late for work!" I said, not even bothering to wait for an answer, storming off to our bedroom to get ready.

"Good morning to you too!" Lena yelled from the kitchen and then I heard a loud noise of the door shutting completely.

Fuck. I managed to fight with my wife AND be late at the same time.

I showered as qucikly as I'd ever showered before and threw some clothes on, grabbed my coffee to go and started the car, only to hear the noise of a notification popping up - it was Lena's text.

"Good morning. Your mother wants us to have dinner with her."

Oh shit, no. No, not one more thing to deal with. As I was about to answer Lena's text, I got a phone call from work asking me where I was.

"I'm on my way. Sorry, something urgent came up and I didn't even have time to tell you, but I'll get there soon." I answered the phone while I pushed the speed limit, racing to get to the office.

As soon as I had some time, during lunch, I decided to call Lena. "Hey, love, how's your day been?"

"Well, let's see, I woke up, saw my wife sleeping next to me and figured that, since she always sets an alarm, she wanted to get more sleep this morning. I then proceded to getting ready for work and having breakfast by myself, only to be insulted during breakfast by said wife. That's the gist of it so far, how's yours?" She said, and I could hear she was not in a good mood. Or, well, maybe she was at first and then I blew it for her.

I sighed. "I'm sorry, I needed someone to blame. I was getting up and very stupid. I really am sorry."

"Would find it easier to believe if you had at least bothered to text me back."

"What? Oh, shit. Sorry! I'm a mess today, I haven't been great at work either."

"You know what? It's fine. I just think that if you cared, you'd have bothered to talk to me before 1PM. And maybe said good morning to me too, instead of accusing me of not being responsible for the grown woman that you are."

I took a deep breath. "Sure, you're right. I will make it up to you, I promise. Dinner tonight? I'll get your favorite - and I'll even buy us some of that expensive wine you like so much."

"That's a start. But what about dinner with your mother?"

"That's tonight?"

"Yep."

"And you said yes?!"

"There wasn't an actual question for me to say yes or no to. And I figured, since we did get married without her there, she just wanted to see us. So tonight she's coming."

I sighed. "Oh sweet lord."

"Don't go all religious on me now. You call her and welcome her. She called me because your phone was unreachable. Try to make yourself more available next time, please."

I nodded, even though she couldn't see it. "Right. So no naked plans tonight, huh?"

"Oh man, the things you say at work..."

"I'm alone!" I laughed at her desperation.

She sighed. "I don't know. Let's see how you behave until then. But I make no promises."

I went about my day and called my mother to make sure she was coming over for dinner, but it definitely didn't go without her saying how pissed at me she was for not being able to contact me.

"Why can't you just follow your wife's example and be a little be more available?" She asked.

I sighed. "Hello, mother. I'm sorry, alright? I've had a pretty shitty day so far, I honestly don't need to hear this now."

"I take it you had an argument with Lena, the way she talked to me about you wasnt the best either."

"I know, but we're fine now. Listen, just to confirm, you're coming over for dinner later, right?"

Sharon sure was giving me a hard time. "Well, if you'd bothered to answer the phone, you would know the answer to that question. Anyway, yes, I am. I had to invite myself over but I will show up nevertheless."

I rolled my eyes at her, grateful she couldn't see my face as I did so. Then we hung up the phone and I got ready to leave. I sent Lena a sweet text, letting her know I'd be home soon and asking her if we needed anything from the store.

She simply said "no. See you soon" and then I knew I had to get her some flowers or something to make her feel better about us.

As soon as I got home I handed her a bouquet of roses and kissed her softly on the lips. "I'm sorry."

"I know you are."

"How was your day, love?"

Lena nodded. "It was good actually. I take it yours was not so fun... "

I sighed. "Definitely not. I'm just glad to be home and to be with you. I feel like this peace and quiet is all I need."

Lena grinned.

"What?"

"Nothing. Sharon is on her way here though. I'm not sure how much peace and quiet you're gonna get for not inviting her to the wedding."

"Ha, and you? Don't forget we did this together."

Lena shook her head. "You're on your own. Your mother loves me, I can't let her down."

I stood there open mouthed. "You traitor."

She started laughing at me as we set the table together. "I'm kidding, baby. I'll try to make a case to defend us, but you know your mother... I'm not sure how that's gonna go."

"Is it too late to cancel?" I asked, completely exhausted.

Lena laughed once again at my desperation. "Chill out, baby. You got promoted, we got married, we really only have good news here to share with Sharon. She can't be that mad at us."

"I guess you do have a point."

Lena raised her eyebrow at me. "You should get that tattooed so you remember it more often."

"Oh, come here." I grabbed her by the waist and kissed her on the lips. Softly at first until it became somewhat heated. I really wanted us to be together tonight without my mother to interrupt us.

But I knew that wasn't going to happen.
