Snowbell
The morning after the first quidditch game was not one Bell liked to look back on. Colin Creevey had been petrified during the night. The air in the Great Hall was dry and silent after the announcement was made to the student body. "The heir of Slytherin claimed another victim."
The life had been sucked out of everyone that was in the room. This was the first human victim to be petrified. Bell glanced around the Gryffindor table, this had to be a joke. She had seen him in the dorms last night. How could this be possible?
How was this guy petrifying people anyway? Surely this spell isn't strong enough to have a permeant effect a person...right? She'll have to research more on the subject after classes today. She finished her half of her breakfast and left the dining hall, not bothering to tell her friends that she was leaving.
She headed to the dorm and grabbed her bag and books she would need for the day and started heading down to the dungeons for potions class. She wasn't surprised to see that Roman was already there working on homework for another class.
Bell sat down next to him and slammed her head down on the desk. "What happened this time?" Roman asked without looking up.
Roman and Bell had the most unlikely of friendships. He was a lone wolf, didn't understand jokes and was quiet. Bell was sarcastic, loud and tended to put herself out there, but they had a few things to bond over. Anger issues were one of them.
Every time Max Williams spoke, they both would groan in unison. He was that kid in class that thought he knew everything but really didn't. The two couldn't stand him, and from there a beautiful friendship bloomed.
They were good together academically too. He was one of the only people to notice that Bell was a lot smarter then she let on, and because of this, they were able to balance each other out. They were currently the pair at the top of their class so even though Bell was a Gryffindor, Professor Snape didn't bother her much.
"I made more enemies." Bell mumbled into the desk, "I don't mean to...it just happens." Roman patted her head.
"I understand." Roman said, "most of the human population is just annoying."
"Amen to that." Snowbell agreed and sat up. She pulled out the homework assigned from last class, a quill, an ink bottle and laid them on her desk. "Hey what did you get for number seven?"
Roman stopped writing his essay and pulled out his potions homework. "Aconite and it is used for wolfsbane potions."
"Ah, thanks," Bell said and wrote down the answer. "Hey, did hear what happened to Creevey?"
"Yeah, poor kid," Roman said blandly and continued to scribble his essay.
"How do you think the heir of Slytherin does it, the petrification I mean," Bell asked.
"I would expect a really powerful, and illegal potion." Roman mused.
"Not many potions have the same effect on people then they do animals, so it must be very hard to brew," Snowbell said. "They can't have an unlimited supply, so they must be making it somewhere..." Roman set down his quill, obviously giving up on his homework.
"You have my attention." Roman turned to face her. This always happened when there were conspiracy theories involved.
"Do you wanna go hunt down the heir of Slytherin before they claim another victim?" Snowbell asked.
"It sounds reckless and dangerous...I'm in," Roman said.
"Hell yeah! We're going to be heroes! We should gather a search group, I know just the people to enlist!" Bell shouted.
