Misty's POV
"Misty! Breakfast time!" Mum called.
"Coming! I called back, running out of my room slamming the door behind me. I climbed down the ladder and ran to the kitchen. When I walked in, I saw my Mum cooking and my brothers, Jack and Josh, shoving each other. I also noticed my Dad's coat was gone. Must've gone to work early, I thought. Oh yeah, did I mention my Dad is the chief of our village? I slid in next to Jack as Mum placed a plate of scrambled eggs and a cup of milk in front of me. I grabbed my spoon and started shovelling the eggs into my mouth. I had cleaned my plate in 10 seconds flat and sculled my milk in 3, enjoying the creamy flavour of the white liquid. I wiped my mouth and ran out of the door to go to town square. As I ran to the front paddock, I grabbed a lead rope and halter. I opened the gate and walked over to where my dapple grey horse was grazing.
"Hey Marble!" I cooed as I slipped the halter over her ears. "How are you today." Marble just snorted in reply. I rolled my eyes and lead her out of the paddock, closing the gate behind me. I tied her up to the fence and jogged over to the tack room. I grabbed my grooming kit and my tack and brought it back to where Marble was standing, slinging the saddle and bridle onto the fence and placed my grooming kit next to her. I opened it and pulled out a curry comb and moved it in circles across her glossy coat. When I was done, I pulled out a body brush and ran it down her body. After that I grabbed a dandy brush and scrubbed her legs, getting rid of the dirt. After grooming her I placed the saddle and saddle blanket on her back and did up the girth. Then I pulled on her bridle and vaulted on to her back. I settled down in the saddle and kicked her into a canter, leaning over her neck. In no time at all I had reached town square and I tied her up to the fence with a haybag. I walked over to the big chalk board to see if I was assinged any jobs today.
"Raina-Cow milking, Nina-Dough kneading, Chana-Sheep shearing, da de da de da..." I read aloud. "Aha! Misty-Egg collecting!" Just then my friend Nina came up to me. "Hi Nina! Your on bread kneading today."
"Just Great!" Nina rolled her eyes. "Who's on bread baking?"
I winced. "Gigi."
"Argh! Of all people it HAD to be her!" Nina Groaned, scowling. Just then Gigi waltzed up to us, trying to make her chocolate brown hair flow gracefully out behind her and miserably failing.
"Well, look who it is! Nina and Misty! Oh how lovely to see you! Let me guess, your on poo scooping!" Gigi sneered.
"No, actually I'm on egg collecting and Nina's on bread kneading." I smirked as her sneer was replaced by a look of pure anger. Gigi stomped her foot and stormed off. I knew saying that woud get to her as it was her favourite job and she never got it as she always broke the eggs. Laughing, Nina and I pranced off to do our jobs.

I was shivering in front of the fireplace with Nina pressed against my side. A storm was coming. We snuggled under a wool blanket and rubbed our hands together as the fire burned higher, the orange, red, yellow and blue flames licking the top of the fireplace. The window opened creaking before slamming open and we shivered as the icy-cold wind blew in. The fire flickered out and the blanket blew out of our grasp. Nina lunged towards the blanket but was not quick enough as the it zoomed accross the room before whacking against the wall and dropping to the floor. I stood up and raced over to the window where the curtains where billowing. I struggled to push the window closed and felt my muscles burning with the effort. I almost had it closed but could push it no farther. Nina sprinted over to me, ramming into the window. It snapped shut and I quickly locked it.
"Nina, go relight the fire and I'll go make us some hot chocolate" Nina nodded before walking over to the fire place. I quickly rearranged the pillows and blankets as the fire burst into life. Nina and I sat back down on the blankets.
"Nina, the other day I-" I began to say before being cut off by a sound that made my blood run cold. The screech of the most dreaded creature ever to roam the earth.
Dragons.
