Chapter 46: The World Has Turned and Left Me Here
-
With that morning as it came, all hope was restored with them as the realization of how they were going to be getting home that day set in with all of them. In every day that had passed that summer, the pessimistic reality of how they may never see those who were stuck on their mind had set in, creating a sea of darkness within them all.
Strolling through the woods, Damon Salvatore had a bit of a pep in his step, whistling his way through the trees as if he were in Snow White. "You're in a good mood for the first time this decade. Stop that." Bonnie Bennett called him out on his behavior, though she had to admit did trump the more typical boohoo behavior.
"I have a hot date with my girl tonight." Damon replied with every bit of happiness in his tone, refusing to join her over on the dark side and remaining on his rollercoaster of optimism.
"That is, if Kai's telling the truth." Amalia threw the idea of Kai being a big, fat liar out there, agreeing with Bonnie's more cynical outlook of having to trust Kai Parker and his sociopathic tendencies.
"I'm thinking dinner and a movie. You know what? Screw dinner and the movie, skip straight to the good part." Damon completely ignored their side comments, keeping him on the path he had been on since the day began.
"Yeah, and assuming I can do the spell, which I won't know until I see it." Bonnie added in response, seeming to find every negative way of looking at things possible.
"Whatever happened to hope, Bon? Remember how I was all like, boo, grr. And you two were all, hooray, hooray! We're getting out of here." Damon reminded them of their aggravating positivity that the girls had carried all summer while he had spent the majority of his time moping and whatnot.
"Yeah, well, that was before I was told to trust a sociopath." Amalia made yet another valid point, jogging the memory the Salvatore had seemed to let go of in which Kai Parker was a murderous narcissist that couldn't be trusted in any way, shape, or form.
"Who's to say he won't screw us over?" Bonnie asked in agreement with Amalia.
"Me. I say. Because I will kill Kai and anyone who comes in the way of me going home." Damon answered her question as he pointed the stick he had been holding in his hand in front of them.
As if he had been summoned, Kai appeared at the mere mention of his name, exactly at the spot Damon had been pointing at. "I heard my name. All good, I hope. The eclipse will happen directly overhead. In perfect alignment with the Gemini constellation. You, dig into the tunnels below us. We'll do the spell there."
