~Phil's POV~
Today was the day. New year, new me... Okay, so maybe not an entirely 'new' me but screw it, I don't have time to think about it right now. The first day of the 11th year of high school, and I can say I was still on the fence about whether to be excited or not to be honest. Slowly, I placed my flower crown on top of my head and looked in the mirror, my fingers running through my fringe to make sure I looked somewhat presentable for the day. It had been three years since I had started dressing in mostly pastel colors and somehow I was still surprised how much my confidence has been boosted. I grabbed my phone and my books, quickly shoving them in my bag before hurrying down the stairs to grab my lunch and start off for school. I pasted the living room where my mother was sat knitting, "Have a wonderful first-day dear" she smiled.
"I will mom, see you later!" I nodded as I walked out the door. I was happy I would get to see her before I left every morning this year. Last year she and our neighbor Susan started a small online business together, selling knitted scarves and such which has really taken off. My older brother, Martyn, doesn't live at home anymore, he and his girlfriend had a baby three months ago. My mother wasn't fairly fond of it but Martyn proposed to Natasha, his girlfriend, last week so that has calmed down her nerves somewhat.
I was walking down the street when a familiar voice chimed in the wind, "Phil!?" I turned my head to see my friend Louise just behind me,
"Hey, Louise!" I smiled as I stopped to wait for her. She looked beautiful, her long pink hair was up in a messy bun and she was wearing a blue dress with a pink blouse. "How was your summer?"
She shrugged her shoulders, "Meh, it was summer. Honestly, I really didn't do anything besides the few times I was over at your house."
I laughed, "Yeah, same" I turned over to her to see a small smirk on her face, "what?" I laughed.
"Phil," she smirked with a light giggle, "aren't you at least somewhat excited to see you know who?" she smirked as I blushed and turned away from her glance,
"I mean y-yeah but, remember he doesn't feel the same. He's a punk, with a reputation and all the girls he could ever dream of." I sighed looking down at my feet, "I bet you five pounds that he doesn't even know who I am or that I exist"
I flinched as a small punch landed on my shoulder, I turned over to Louise and she grabbed my hands making me face her, "Phillip Michael Lester! Don't say things like that!" she smiled and pulled me into a hug, "You'll find your happy ever after Phil," her eyes met mine, "I promise, okay?" I nodded as she smiled.
