~Dan's POV~
It was supposed to be a quiet walk home, but as usual, plans change. I wasn't even four blocks from my house when I saw Tyler's red truck on the side of the road. I ran towards it and followed the sounds of voices and laughter down the alley only to find something that torn my heart from my chest. There in the middle of a dark alley, covered in blood, half beaten to death was Phil. "Phil?... Phil!? " I hardly even noticed I was screaming until they all turned to me with confused looks, "You... You bastards!" I felt a lump form in my throat as I ran to his side checking his pulse.
"Calm down Dan it's just that stupid flower crown idiot!" Joe laughed as the others joined him.
My anger quickly boiling over as I got to my feet and looked them dead in the eyes. Tyler went to hit Phil again with the metal pole I quickly grabbed it from him, he stared at me in confusion before my fist collided with his face. He fell to the ground, they all looked at me like I had gone insane, "If you ever touch him again... I make sure the lot of you never see the light of day again! You hear me!?" They glanced at each other before running away.
I got down on my knees and took his wrist to check his pulse, he was still alive. I reached into his bag and found his phone, dammit, he had a password. I racked my brain quickly and thought back to our childhood. Dil. Without hesitation, I typed in the three lettered words and... It was correct...? I scrolled through his contacts and found a familiar face, Louise. I wasted no time I called her up and placed Philin my arms as I rushed towards her house. Once I had made my way to Louise's house we placed Phil on the table and stitched him back together. We decided to let him rest on the guest bed seeing as Louise's parents were away on a business trip. I sat down on the couch, head in my hands. Dil. Why was his password our old imaginary friend from when we were ten? Had our friendship really meant that much to him?
A hand on my back brought me back to reality, "He's going to be okay Dan, relax." I nodded as she handed me tea and joined me on the couch, "He might've died if you hadn't been here when you were." She smiled, "He's going to be full of questions but he's going to be grateful." I smirked, after all these years it seems Phil hasn't changed at all. Sure the way he dresses has changed but it suits him. "Dan," her voice seemed to go more serious as she turned to face me, "you know he's going to ask why you saved him, yes?" I nodded, "So, I'm going to ask it first... Why did you?"
I looked at her, then back down at my tea, "Louise," I sighed, "you're Phil's closest friend. He trusts you and for some reason, and as strange as it may sound, my brain is telling me that I can trust you as well... So, If I tell you, you have to promise not to tell a soul, okay?" She nodded slowly, "I'm sure you know Phil and I have a past together... And let's be honest it was the best years of my life and I regret every day for ending our friendship because; it was the o-only thing I had." I felt the lump in my throat return, "Louise, I'm in love with Phil, have been since he and I were thirteen..." her eyes were filled with shock and concern, "But he thinks I'm this douchebag punk who sleeps with whoever he can get his hands on. And sure that was what used to be true, but I don't want to do that anymore. I can't keep walking through the halls or past his house, knowing that the only person I care about is being affected by my stupidity." I quickly wiped away my tears with my sleeve as she took my hand and smiled.
