When I woke up I remembered that Cole was working at some summer camp so he'd be gone for a few days. I got out of bed and made myself some breakfast. I made a bowl of Cap'N Crunch and some orange juice. I sat down at the table and flicked through the morning paper while I ate.
"Morning," Dally said groggily, walking into the kitchen.
"Good morning. I'm going out," I said as I put my dishes in the sink.
"You know I trust you, right?" Dally asked.
"Yeah," I said. "Why?"
"I just wanna know where you're going. I do trust you. I just need to know that you're safe. I'm not trying to invade your privacy," Dally told me.
"I know that," I reassured him. "I'm going to Henry's house."
"Wanna do something later?" Asked Dallas. "Wanna go to the drive-in?"
"Sure," I said with a smile. I hugged Dallas goodbye and made my way to Henry's house.
I heard a car trailing me.
I'll give you one guess who it was.
I stopped.
"Hey, guys," I said.
"Where are you going all alone?" Patrick asked.
"Henry's house," I said.
"He's fucking whipped," Vic whispered.
"He's not fucking whipped," I argued.
"He is," Belch said. "He would never invite a girl to his house."
"Why not?" I asked. "I've been to his house loads of times."
"In case they see him with his Dad," Patrick told me. "He doesn't want anyone to see him scared when his Dad bashes him."
"I guess he feels like he can be vulnerable in front of you," Vic said.
I scoffed.
"That's not true," I said uncertainly.
"Do you wanna ride?" Belch offered. "We're going past there anyway."
"Uh, sure," I said.
Belch got out of his seat and put my bike in the back.
"I could have done that myself," I said.
Belch shrugged and Vic opened the back door for me.
"Thanks," I said.
When we got there, Vic opened the door again and Belch got my bike out of the back, then they drove off.
Butch was leaving the house. I headed for the front door.
"Hi Officer Bowers," I greeted.
"Hello, Primrose," Butch said. "How are you?"
"I'm okay. How are you?" I asked.
"Never better," Butch said seductively. "Tell your Daddy I said hello."
"I will," I said cautiously.
Butch then got into his car and drove off.
The front door was open and Henry was sitting on the couch watching TV.
"Hi, Henry," I said cheerfully.
"Prim!" He greeted enthusiastically, practically jumping off the couch. He realized what he just did and cleared his throat.
"Can you help me fix my bike?" He asked.
"For what?" I questioned.
"To ride," Henry said.
