After a few days of staying at Henry's house, things were starting to get better. None of us had any runs ins with It, and we hadn't really had any fights with each other. Although, the group wasn't really back together yet. I'd been spending so much time with Henry, Vic, Belch, and Patrick. We were currently sat around Belch's car, on the large fields behind Henry's house.
"I'll be back tonight," Butch said before he got into his car and drove off.
"Thank god he's gone," Patrick said. "He gives me the creeps."
"I thought nothing scared you?" Snickered Belch.
"I didn't say that he scared me, I said he gave me the creeps," Patrick added.
Belch shrugged.
"I can't believe he took all the guns," Patrick complained. "How are we supposed to defend ourselves?"
"Against what?" Henry asked. "There are like no robberies around here."
"I don't know, maybe a killer clown?" Patrick said sarcastically.
"I don't think a gun is going to protect you against a killer clown," Vic said.
"There has to be a way that we can kill it," Belch said. "But how do we find out?"
"Well, if Ben's information is right, it'll be gone soon anyway," I said.
"But it'll come back," Henry said.
"We'll all probably be long gone from here," Belch said.
"But what if we aren't?" Questioned Henry.
"We'll all be like forty or older. Adults," Patrick said. "Can't hurt us then."
"Are you dumb?" Scoffed Vic.
"Maybe," Patrick shrugged.
"Answer is yes," mumbled Vic. "Of course it can still hurt us when we're adults."
"There must be something written down somewhere telling us how to kill it for real," I said. "Besides not being afraid of our worst fears, I can't think of any other way off the top of my head."
"I'm sure there's a way," Henry said.
"Yeah, there must be," Belch agreed. "When are we all gonna start hanging out again?"
"Yeah," Patrick said, nodding in agreement. "I miss those losers."
"Me too," I said. "I miss the fun things we used to do."
"The flower man," laughed Henry.
We laughed remembering that night.
"We're gonna get going," Belch said.
"Bye," Vic said. "Prim, call me if you need a lift back to my house."
"See you guys soon," Patrick said.
I walked over and sat next to Henry on the grassy field.
"Are you okay?" I asked. "You seem off today."
Henry shrugged.
"What's wrong?" I asked, inching closer to Henry so that our shoulders were touching.
Henry shook his head. "Just everything."
"You mean stuff with your dad and stuff with It?" I asked.
"Partly," Henry said.
"What else?" I asked. "I wanna help you."
"You," Henry said.
"Me?" I questioned.
"Yeah," Henry confirmed.
"What about me?" I asked.
"You confuse me," Henry told me.
"How?" I asked.
"We kissed, and then you don't even wanna talk about it. I love you, Primrose. Don't you love me?" Henry said.
"Yes," I said, quickly.
"Then what are we doing?" Henry asked, eyes watering. "You mean more to me than anyone else. It feels like my life comes after you, and the only thing that I wanna do is keep you safe. You inspire me to be a better person, I haven't hurt anyone in ages and it's all because of you. I'm in love with you, so deeply."
My eyes watered as I looked Henry deep into the eyes.
"I love you, Henry," I said. "I've been with other guys but none of them seem right. You always make me feel better about everything and I can't see myself with anyone other than you. You make me want to trust boys."
"What are we going to do about this?" Henry asked. "I want to be with you. I want to have a relationship with you."
"I can't be in a relationship right now," I told him. "There's too much going on. My mental health isn't good enough, there's a lot of reasons, I just don't think it would be good for me."
"I don't mind," Henry insisted. "I accept you however you come."
"You will mind, though," I told him. "Trust me, it's not fair on you."
"Please, I promise I will treat you the way you deserve to be treated, I won't ever lay a hand on you, I'll protect you and make sure no one hurts you and if they do, I will literally go and kill them," Henry told me.
"I know you will treat me well Henry, it's not that. It's not you, it's me. I promise maybe in the future if things improve, I'll be ready, but for now, I'm just not. I'm sorry," I told him.
"Is it because of Vic?" Henry asked.
"No," I said. "I told you the real reasons."
"How long do you think I will have to wait?" Henry asked.
"Don't wait for me," I said. "Please. Don't waste your time waiting for me. Nothing is guaranteed."
"I thought you loved me, though?" Henry asked.
"I do," I said. "That's why I want the best for you. And I'm not the best thing for you right now."
"I'll wait for you, I'm going to wait for you. You're the only one I want and will ever want. That's something I know for sure," Henry said.
"Do you really think so?" I asked.
"I know so," Henry said.
"I feel the same way, but as of right now I don't want to be with anyone full stop. It's not possible," I said.
"Someone who loves you will accept you no matter how broken you are, no matter what your company is like. If someone loves you they will want you no matter what it puts them through, that's how much I love you," Henry said.
"I know, but the answer is no right now. I'm sorry," I said.
"Will you tell me when you're ready?" Henry asked. He was crying now.
"Yes," I confirmed.
"Promise me?" Henry asked, tilting my head up by my chin with his hand.
"I promise," I said, kissing him on the cheek.
I stood up and headed back to Vic's house.
