It's been two weeks since I am in the hospital. Today I am getting discharged. My wounds aren't completely healed but I am fit enough to go back. Dad is driving me home, he is quite upset with me. He hasn't talked to me since that day apart from, 'If I am okay?', 'Did I eat?', 'How am I feeling?'
We reach Grandma's house and I see Grandma, Lisa and Jack waiting for me at the front door. They all look happy and pleased to have me back.
"Oh! You look so pale," Grandma says as she touches my face
"I am fine Grandma," I reply with a smile
"Once you are completely recovered, I will make sure you don't have to eat all those tasteless food," says Grandma
"Mom, I think she needs to rest now. I will leave her to her room" says Dad, who is standing behind with my bag
Grandma nods in yes and Dad and I move upstairs. Once we reach my room, Dad keeps my bag on the bed is about to leave
"Dad we need to talk," I speak and he stops
"There is nothing to talk about," he says
"Dad, please! You cannot do this. I need to find out what happened to Mom that day" I say
"Merliah, your Mom is gone and something is to be left in past. Moreover, she wouldn't want you to roam around trying finding something useless and get yourself injured" he says
"Dad, if you listen to me. I will tell you everything" I say
"Once you recovered we will leave for Hastings," he says and leaves the room
"Dad, Dad!" I call out but is of no use
There is saying, 'Your past makes your present and your present makes your future.' Whatever happens in our past makes us who we are in the present. Whatever happened in my past, it is because of that I am standing here trying to do something which was to be done back then. I can't let the past repeat where things were buried and no one tried to know the truth.
"Merliah!" someone calls out
I look up to see Grandma standing in the doorway.
"Merliah I need to go to the flower shop. Is it okay to leave you with Lisa and Jack?" says Grandma
"Yes, it's fine but where is Dad?" I ask
"He is gone to visit your Mom's grave. So I am leaving" she says and leaves the room
I have to resume back to my work. No matter what Dad says I will finish the things that someone else started. I ask Lisa and Jack to bring my bag.
"Where is Mrs Roger?" I ask
"She is staying in the hotel," says Jack
"Did she ask you guys something or did something peculiar?" I ask
"No, she didn't but Mrs Roger and your Grandma didn't look close at all even though being college time friends," says Lisa
"What do you mean?" I ask
"Your Grandma acted really cold towards Mrs Roger and she wouldn't let her stay too long in the hospital nor at home," says Jack
"Thank you so much for keeping this bag safe and not telling anyone about what we found this far. Can you leave me alone I need to spend some time thinking?" I say
"Will you be alright?" asks Lisa
"I will be okay," I say
Both of them leave the room. I can hear the door click and shut downstairs which assures me that they have left. I have to get back to reading the diaries but the other thing is that who shot me? Is there someone who is trying to reach Finn Hazer? But how does it benefit that person if he or she shot me? The person is trying to stop me from getting closer towards the truth. Then that person knows what happened that day or he or she is the one who killed Mom. I take out the diaries out of the cupboard and start reading them from where I left.
