The Present

I started unpacking the last few boxes. It feels good to be back in LA. Just my Mom and I. Lyric, my best friend is here with us too. Long story short; she hated her life in New York, so she begged her Mom to let her move out here with us.

Diggy? I don't know where he at. He's last year in High School he got his girlfriend pregnant. Her parents wanted her to get an abortion but she refused. She asked my Mom could she stay with us, she said no. After that Her and my brother ran away. Where? I don't know.

I was changing the sheets on my bed until Lyrics walked in.

"Hey fatness."

I fixed my pillows. "I think thickness is the word you're trying to say."

She shrugged. "Fatness. Thickness. Same thing to me."

"Well it's not."

"I repeat. 'Fatness. Thickness. Same thing to me'."

"Still not the same thing."

She rolled her eyes. "Whatever." She sat on my bed. "Ready for school tomorrow?"

"Of course. I just need to find an outfit." I walked over to my closet and open it.

"Ooo. You should wear that."

"What? This?" I said pointing at a Adidas hoodie.

"Yeah. It's cute."

"Hell no!"

"Why not?"

"I gotta slay for tomorrow."

"So wear that hoodie."

"No. Everybody and their mama got this hoodie."

"How you know?"

"You just know." I sighed and stepped away from my closet.

Lyric stood up and walked to my door. "Well, I'm wearing anything tomorrow. We arrived at that school 6 months after it started, so I'm not trying to slay."

"Well that's you."

She walked out my room and I stared at my closet.

"...Maybe that hoodie would look cute with my new shoes."
