Switched at the Choosing Ceremony

Chapter 1: Katelin -PE-

Before the current time in the intro

Past events will be labeld in the title: -PE-

(A.N, Katelin is about five years old, and forgets things very often) "Katelin, dear wake up. It's Timothy's Choosing Ceremony today." My mother says. I nod in response and get up and change. I find my yellow dress and red jacket on my bed. I change and head to the kitchen. "Hey Tim, are you nervous for today?" I ask. "Uhm, a little bit. But I think I can make it." Tim smiles. I nod and we head to the trucks. Tim and I climb into the truck and are greeted by the people of Amity.

We arrive at the Choosing Ceremony and we sot with our faction. Marcus Eaton stands on the stage in front of the five bowls and says everything he says each year. A few names are called, I don't pay attention until my brother's name is called. I look at my brother and give him a hug. He smiles and walks up to the stage. Marcus hands Tim the knife and my brother holds his hand over the Dauntless bowl. A few gasps go around, but the Dauntless cheer with triumph of their new transfer. I look at my mother and father, they both hold smiles on their faces, but when you look into their eyes you see sorrow, loss and sadness.

"Lillian" calls Marcus. The Abnegation girl, Lillian stands and walks towards to five bowls. She slices her palm and holds her hand over the Amity bowl. Since Lillian was the last person, everyone claps and settles down. Marcus gives a long speech. We all walk out but I stay behind. Suddenly a Dauntless family walks beside me and all of a sudden I get lost and the Amity are no where to be seen. The worst thing is, is that no one can go outside the fence, so it's either I get adopted or I be factionless . "Um, excuse me, but I'm lost. I can't find my family." I say to the Dauntless woman beside me, who is part of the Dauntless family. "Well, I believe all the Amity have left. I don't think you can go outside the fence to the Amity compound. I'm sorry but you need to stay with me. By the way, my name is Ashley." The Dauntless woman- Ashley replies. "Katelin, I am five years old." I say. She nods and I follow her. "You can play off as a Dauntless born, and until you're sixteen, you can choose your faction. Also, I'm sorry but you can't go back to Amity, because people might think that you're D-I-V-E-R-G-E-N-T." Ashley says. I nod. Tears sting my eyes. Ashley looks at me and hugs me. "It's fine. My family won't hurt you. Oh and this is my family." Ashley says as we approach the train. Ashley joins a group of a girl, and a father, so Ashley must be the mother. "Guys, this is Katelin. She is lost and I have adopted her, I don't want to see her become factionless. By the way Katelin meet my seven year old daughter- Carter. And my husband- Luke." She says as she gestures to the girl and man. "Hi." Carter says. "Hi." I reply back. "So, you're Amity?" Asks Carter. "Yeah." I reply. "Well, I have some Dauntless clothes you can have when we get home. One more thing, are you afraid of heights?" Carter asks. "No, why?" I ask. "Oh, you'll see." She says and with that she jumps onto the train. I feel two strong hands clamp on my waist, I turn to see Luke carrying me. Luke lifts me and pulls me onto the train. "Thank you." I say. "No problem. Anyways, I guess I am your foster father now. We should change your name, you know like a nickname, just so that you don't seem different." Luke says. I nod. "How about Kate?- no, too girly. Hm, how about Kathy?- no, still too girly. How about Lynn?-wait no. Katy? Katherine?" Ashley, my new mother says. "How about Kate or Katy?" I say. "Kate it is. But when you are sixteen, you need to say your name is Kate, alright?" Luke says. I nod. "We're here." Says a Dauntless man. With that I look out the train door and see that we are about seven stories high. Several Dauntless borns jump onto the roof. I feel two strong hands clamp around my waist and I am being lifted. I close my eyes and see that I am on the roof. I made it. I think to myself. Soon I am being picked up again and carried to the front of a Dauntless crowd. "-Jump off of this building." Says a Dauntless man in front of the group. I am still in my father's arms and he holds me to his chest and jumps off of the building into a gaping hole at the bottom of the building. I close my eyes and we stop falling. I open my eyes again and see that my father and I are in a net inside the Dauntless Compound. "Hey Luke, who's this little girl?" Says a Dauntless man who helps us out of the net. "This is Kate, she got lost and my family adopted her. Don't tell anyone she is Amity, alright?" My father says. The Dauntless man nods and a woman and a young girl jump down next. I walk over to the net and see that the two people are my mother and sister. "Let's show Kate around mom and dad." Says my sister. My parents nod and we walk around.

Soon we arrive at my family's apartment. Carter shows me around the apartment. When we reach Carter's room Carter says "You can sleep on any choice of the bunk you want. Mom said we can go shopping tomorrow! Are you excited?" "Yay! I can't wait! We should sleep, mom might get mad. Night." I say as I climb into bed. Soon, sleep engulfs me and I fall asleep.
