Switched at the Choosing Ceremony

Chapter 10: Kate

        Choosing ceremony day. As Jen, Cassandra, Anna, and I walk towards the train, we see other 16 year olds and we all jump in. Soon we start discussing which faction seems more clearer but to me, it's all blurry. When we get there, we walk through the doors and I see the 5 bowls of earth, gray stones, water, glass, and sizzling coal. All representing the five factions. We sot with out faction until an Amity startes the normal speech. "Emily," she announces. An Erudite girl walks up the the five bowls, knife in hand, slices her palm, and drops her blood into the Candor bowl. "Jess," the announcer announces. A Dauntless boy walks over, slices his palm and holds it over the Abnegation bowl. "Kate," oh no, my turn.

        As I blink back into reality, I take the knife, slice my palm, and close my eyes. When I open my eyes, I see my blood in the Dauntless and Amity bowls. Gasps spread throughout the room. I look around seeing the Amity girl staring at the bowls. "Please state the faction you would like to belong to, Dauntless or Amity." I think, and them say,"I---I don't know" Then I see Tim standing in the Dauntless crowd and remember, he's my brother. We are kin. But right before I say Dauntless I see two longing faces in the Amity crowd that rush over to me and embrace me in their arms. I don't know who they are so I pull away. They stare and say in unison,"Katelin!" "How do you know my name?" I ask. They stare with sorrow and loss in their eyes.

        We stand there, holding eachother's eyes and for a moment I feel like I belong with them. No, they are Amity, I am Dauntless. I slowly say my future faction,"I choose....Dauntless." The couple break away with tears daring to flow. I walk back to the Dauntless crowd and stand along with my friends. Here are what that chose:

Anna-Candor

        I guess it's just me and Jen from now on. I hug Cassandra and Anna for the last time and wave goodbye as they dissapear into their chosen factions. Jen and I walk back to the train tracks, hop on and reach the Dauntless compound.

(A.N: HINT HINT!!! LATER ON IN EITHER THIS BOOK OR THE SEQUEL, KATE WILL GO ON A MISSION TO SAVE AMITY FROM CANDOR AND ERUDITE!! GET IT!???)
