Chapter 15: Kate

I'm excited for the fact that Dauntless will be helping the Amity. Today is the day we select troops to go to Amity. Before I leave, my phone rings and it's Anna. "Hi!" I exclaim. Anna explains that she will help Amity the best she can. I feel reassured for at least one Candor can see that Amity is not useless. I tell Anna that I have to go and she says bye. As I ride in a truck with a few other dauntless including Jen, I plot out how we can help Amity. Erudite and Candor will surely be lacking military defence but will have a surplus of intelligence which will help then develop their battle strategies. There is a mix of advantages and disadvantages. There may be some Erudite and Dauntless transfers that will be helping both factions. When we arrive, the Amity guards greet us with smiles opposing the large guns held at hand, ready to shoot.

When we get inside, there are Amity who immediately tell us where we are to be stationed and how we will be defending and offending. The plan consists of dauntless being offenders and Amity being the strategists. Some dauntless transfers to Amity have agreed to fight. Some Dauntless go north, some south, east, and west. A few other groups are spread inside and outside the fence. We seem prepared for anything.

The Erudite and Candor are attacking. We ready our guns and prepare for battle. Helmets on and all weapons help up. The first fight was pretty simple, all Candor attacking, probably being the fact of Erudite noting our strengths and weaknesses. As we fight, surprisingly the Dauntless transfers into Amity were doing very well. With our good aim, the Dauntless win the first round of hits. We get breaks in between with a refill of bullets.

The next round was a bit more challenging but with more Dauntless fighting, simple as well. All other rounds were simple and we sent some Dauntless to scout the number of troops that are left and how many Erudite are planning. If possible, we told them to eliminate some of the more, stronger troops to make the fighting more bearable. I am in that group. While we are scouting the troops, I see Anna in fighting armor and holding a weapon. I can't believe this, she... betrayed us, her friends.

As we head back, I think about how much I believed her and how many memories we shared.

My mind is full of sorrow.
