"That's not possible," I rejected.
"But it is."
"How can you be so sure?" I keep on contradicting.
"Because I know his kind," Leo answered.
I remembered Lance's black-filled eyes, his abnormal capabilities; how he seems to be indestructible and how he endures every blow we gave him. He was anything but human.
"Have you heard about the story of creation?" He asked suddenly.
"Which one?" I couldn't be bothered to think about it.
"God created light. But because of light, darkness was casted. Humans belong to neither of those entities for they possess both. People like Lancelot existed a long time ago before humanity occurred. And Lancelot belonged to the dark ones," he explained.
"You actually believe in that stuff?" My head was spinning fast. My brain refused to digest his words. It just didn't make any sense to me.
"Sorcery. Witchcraft. Magic. These words belong in children's fantasies. It is ridiculous to be placed in reality. That night you doubted that belief. You've seen it for yourself."
His words cut through me like a knife. "You have no idea what I've been through that night," my voice trembled. "You have no right to act like you know what happened to me." He talks like he knew something about Lance's origin. And it scares me.
"You deserve to know the truth," he looked at the sandwiches. "You haven't touched your food. Aren't you hungry?" he leaned closer to take them to me.
"Stay away from me!" I warned, edging opposite him. The sudden movement made me realize that the IV plastered on my hand was gone. "Why are you telling me this? Why don't you just get straight to the point?"
Leopold took the hint and remained on his place. "You'd ask questions again later so I might as well get over it now. Besides, how can you believe me when you wouldn't understand?" He took my silence as a positive response and went on. Truth was: I just wanted a distraction to take my mind off the tragedy.
"The two opposite entities coexisted together with humans in between in the beginning," he continued. "The light supernatural creatures were called 'Casters' while their opposites were called 'Phantoms'. Both of those beings were similar in power but they differ in desires. Casters and Phantoms have the ability to defy the laws of nature. They can manipulate. They are powerful and therefore they are dangerous. The supernatural power that they possess was called 'mana'. But these capabilities have their consequences. They derive mana from their own physical energy. Therefore their species didn't tend to live long." He paused as if to dwell on something.
"Powerful as they are, they, too, are mortals in nature. Death is a route common to these three. Humans were neutral in position; they didn't possess the same abilities to generate mana but with this restriction, they were able to live longer in comparison. They were considered abused in their nature, especially by the Phantoms. The humans complained about it and resided close to the Casters. Phantoms and Casters were in disagreement with each other's existence and the humans' decision of forming an alliance with the Casters made it more complex. The Phantoms were outnumbered. Due to that disadvantage, they chose to remain into hiding."
