Sitting comfortably next to him, I took a nip on my sandwich and pretended not to notice him staring at me. But it wasn't easy to ignore.
"I thought Jillian was coming over," Damien finally said, breaking the solemn silence that I was keeping.
"She was, until this guy asked her to help him over some lesson," I rolled my eyes. Jill was not only a flirt. She was a smartass flirt who wouldn't pass up a chance to be with her next-candidate-for-imaginary-boyfriends.
"Did I forget to mention the guy was cute?" I pointed out. Damien fixed a narrow gaze at me that was a signal for caution. Did I say something wrong?
"What?" I returned his stare with one of mine. Bad idea.
I ended up being the first to look away. His emerald eyes are too damn magnetizing.
"Princess, maybe it's time for Jillian to settle with someone she likes," he mentioned critically with a voice that seemed too far away.
"Cut the 'maybe' word. She might hear you," I joked. "Seriously though Damien, relationships just don't work that way. She's too skillful yet so unskillful... you know what I'm saying?" I took a bite on my sandwich.
"She's trying and it's working but she's just taking on the wrong step." I swallowed and then continued, "There are a lot of guys out there who likes her, but it's not enough. She needs a guy who actually knows her and then comes to like her. That's the safest way around."
Damien smiled at me; a smile that reached his twinkling emerald eyes. "Teachers should give an essay on that."
I punched him lightly on the arm which made him laugh even more.
"And what kind of guy are you actually talking about here?" he asked after he took the light hit.
Someone like...The answer was obvious but I couldn't tell him that. "Someone like Nathan," I answered instead.
He arched an eyebrow, "Conservative Nate and blundering Jill? You're not being ironic are you?"
It was my turn to laugh. "No, I was playing cupid on ice and fire." I finished my sandwich and focused my attention on him fully. "Ignoring the fact that Nathan is playing single jack, Jill unsurprisingly has a secret crush on him. And if Nathan would only bring down his walls, I'm sure he's more than capable to love Jill."
Damien didn't say something for a while, but he was still holding his gentle smile. "It may only come in the right time, but as much as you are being conscious of your friend's futile love affairs, you should always remember, that everyone deserves someone that can make them look forward to tomorrow," he alleged thoughtfully before planting a swift kiss on my cheek.
I opened my eyes as I made my exit on memory lane. Lydia's stiff composure welcomed my eyes. Surprising it was to say, I caught her curiously looking at me. She was seated next to me in a three-man seat. Even if she was right next to me, there was still a big gap in the middle that had a mental message as a physical boundary. The seating arrangement was once again Leopold's mandate.
The trip to Canada was as awkward as it can possibly be as foretold by my instinctive prophecy. The minutes felt like hours and the only sound that kept me company was Drum's melodious laughter while he was flirting with some stewardess at the back. Kyle was silent, not seemed to be bothered being seated next to Drum. The last time I checked when I turned, he was sleeping peacefully, leaning his head on the comfy seat.
The plane was a luxurious one, much more than what I expected from Leopold. I thought I wouldn't be surprised especially when he is onboard the giant plane with scarce people to accommodate. As far as I know, it could still fill up thrice the number of people inside including some high-rank alchemists that Leopold managed to pick up.
