Could this night get any worse?
"What are you talking about?" I finally said after what felt like a long while. Watching his every move, I didn't take my eyes off of him. As for Lance, he seems to be doing the same to me. I could feel his strong gaze all over me and every part of me shivered.
I couldn't do anything. He has the upper hand. Jill was still asleep and nobody else is around to help us. But what really scared me most was the fact that he isn't human.
"You like roses, don't you?"
I didn't answer him. He wasn't waiting for a response either. "I sent you one last night at midnight," he devilishly smiled, revealing sharp long incisors. I froze.
"Don't worry; it was just a greeting on the eve of your 18th birthday. Although the bouquet was different. You see, you left them on the shore and it would have been a terrible waste, wouldn't you agree?"
I couldn't move. I couldn't shout for help. I was petrified. He was already in front of me in a flash and I was so terrified, my heart hurts in every beat. I avoided his gaze and looked down on the ground when he touched the rose pendant of my necklace. "What a very lovely present."
I sped away from him, and moved quickly to Jill's side. "What do you want from me?"
"You wouldn't understand. It is beyond your knowledge. I'll find a way somehow, but I couldn't tell you that right now. It would be pointless."
"Who are you?" I glared at him.
"This is not the time for questions, mademoiselle. I don't need to explain myself to you. Although it is really obvious that I came here to ruin your life," he smiled as if the words were to cause me comfort.
"Leave Jill out of this. She's had enough of your mind games."
I would have expected that he would laugh at me for making demands and tell me that I am in no position to command him but he only shrugged and said, "As you wish. She is worthless to me anyway. I'm done with her." The puzzled look on my face wasn't enough to describe how confused I was.
I started shaking Jill off of her sleep, trying desperately to wake her up. "Jill, wake up!" She wouldn't rise. "Wake up damn it!" I yelled. She finally sat upright with a baffled look on her face. "What is it Chesh?" she yawned. I instinctively looked up to where Lance was standing but he was gone. I scanned my eyes everywhere, but there was no sign of him. Was he going to let us go?
"Cheshire what are you looking for? Why am I inside this room?" She couldn't remember our conversation. It must have been the liquor. "Cheshire, what's wrong?"
"It's Lance. We need to get out of here." I replied, not hiding the tinge of panic building inside of me.
"What? Lance? Who are you talking about? Are you high or something?" she searched my eyes for an answer. Why couldn't she remember him? Didn't she just confess to me that she was the one who invited Lance all along?
"I- uh, he's- You can't remember him?"
"Cheshire, what are you talking about? You're shaking cold and all sweaty. What are you so afraid of?" her voice started to grow concerned. Was she thinking that I was out of my mind?
No, I couldn't be.
"Let's get out of here," I pulled her up and pushed her to the door before she can say anything. "Cheshire what are you doing?" she protested. Jill was already out the door but when I stepped out, there was an invisible barrier blocking me in. I couldn't get out. What the hell?
