once again, music makes it better.
I peered around the doorframe at the fluff of hair pacing back and forth. I hovered over to rest casually on top of his dresser, letting my left leg dangle and tucked the right one up to my chest. I brushed my hair from my face, watching him.
"My God." he murmured to himself. "Maybe Phil's right." he said. About me haunting them? I wouldn't call it haunting, but I don't want them catching on. I felt my heart stop. It was strange that I had a heart, but I suppose it's just there, ready for second death. Not everyone experiences it, only those who have caused trouble in the afterlife or if they were stuck in the void before they joined the dead. My father, he was unlucky, got stuck in the void. I think about it all the time. "I'm crazy." he said.
"We'll you seem like it, you're talking to yourself." Phil said from the doorway. I giggled resting against the wall. I was beginning to like them more and more.
"Phil, I can feel her." Dan said. Phil's smile disappeared, turning to a frown.
"Don't be silly. I'm not putting up with the pranks anymore." Phil said.
"No, I'm serious. She's here." I shook my head, tempted to leave. "(y/n)? If you're here, give us a sign." he said. Does he want me to be there? What's he playing at? Him knowing my name was making this more difficult. I stayed quiet, though I could've been screaming and he wouldn't have heard me.
"Dan, why don't we head out, you need a break." Phil said. I nodded. I needed a break as well. They never went outside.
"Yeah, good idea." he said. He glanced around the room again, passing over me. They left eventually and I was alone. It felt weird. I had been so preoccupied with Dan and Phil and their move that I hadn't touched my computer unless they were sleeping. I spent most of that time living on the internet. I could chat with online friends, and for all they know I'm alive. It was nice to have someone other than Ambriel to chat with. I decided on a film to pass the time, as I hadn't watched TV in a while.
Netflix?
YouTube?
A small cat leapt through the wall, rubbing up against my leg before disappearing. I occasionally saw animals, not bound to any place, but they were usually lost, trying to find their way to the Capital. At least, that's what I called it. I wasn't lucky enough and was bound here for some reason. That's where Ambriel works and lives. It's pretty nice, but really bright. It was rather stereotypical in the sense that it was all pearly white and gold and such. I sighed and flew up to the vent for my computer.
"Well, well. Look here." I stopped and grumbled.
They were always around.
If you weren't bound, you were welcome in the Capital, unless you were an outlaw, and that was usually because they chose to rebel and torment.
"Go away Zach." I said. He always came to mess with me, as I was close to where he was. He wasn't allowed in the capital anymore.
"Why? Thought you might want company." he said, sliding in next to me. His 2 friends blocked me.
"I don't." I said.
"But, I heard word of you crying for your mommy, wanting to keep her company after your father got stuck in the void."
"Shut up." I said, clenching my fists.
"Poor old Ms. (l/n), all alone. Must be hard on her. Too bad." he taunted.
"I said, shut up!!" I said, shoving past his goons. I felt a few tears, but I pushed them away.
"Aww, poor baby. You are such a--" The door opened and he fell silent.
"You are constantly with your phone, but as soon as we go out, you forget it." Phil said.
"Sorry." Dan sassed, picking up his phone from the counter.
"Wow, living with a gay couple eh?" Zach teased.
"They're not gay." I said, watching Dan leave. I wished he could somehow help me and scare off Zach or something. I just wanted some help.
"Oh, so you like that one huh? I bet Ambriel would love to hear you're a thet now." he pressed.
"I am not antithetical." I said, scowling at him. Antithetical, meaning opposite, or completely incompatible, was used to
describe those who crushed on or fell in love with someone who was alive. Of course, it was allowed, I suppose, but it was a horrible thing to do and everyone hated it. It had been shortened to 'thet' and thrown out as an insult or derogatory term for those who chose this path.
I would never.
"Hard to believe with the way you was looking at 'em" Zach said.
"You're so stupid." I spat.
"Whatever, your father would be disappointed." he countered. I screamed and shoved him. He disappeared, and I slumped to the floor.
How dare he talk about my father like that.
"Ambriel I want to go home." I said, dejected. He appeared, squatting down next to me. He always tended to show up when I was in trouble or hurting. It's just what he does. "I want to go back."
"You can't (y/n). I'm sorry. Even if I resurrect you, you have to start over." he said, hugging me.
"I thought you were too busy." I snapped, getting up off the floor and pushing him away.
"It can wait." he said. His lips curled into a smile. "You're more important."
