"Oh my. What happened?" Ambriel asked as he burst into the room. A woman, whose name I really didn't pay attention to on account of the painful wound on my face, stopped cleaning me up to move for Ambriel. He ran to me, grasping my hand, and I scowled as a sting on my busted lip ran through my face.
"Those dumbass outlaws are constantly terrorizing me." I said. He sighed.
"You know that's one of the very few things I can't control." he said. I stared at the blank wall as the woman finished. I hopped off, feeling better from whatever magic painkillers she had given me.
"It seems like you can't ever control anything." I said, poking his chest and shoving past him.
"Wait (y/n)!" he called, running after me and catching my arm, right above the elbow. I whipped back to look at him, nervous and bumbling. "Please, I just, you know I can't."
"It's just really hard to be around you, or anyone here, when I know that I'm that freak, always alone, and living in that godforsaken apartment." I spat.
"You're not a freak. In my opinion, I like you because you're strong and special. You make do with what you're given." he said. His eyes were a golden color, always sparkling. They were the reason he had been named Ambriel, after the honey colored amber stone. I let out a huff.
"Thanks." I said.
"Look, I know it's tough, but you're just the person for it. You're more than just an angel. You're perfect." he said, flashing me a smile. Normally, a comment like that would cause red to nip at my cheeks and ears, but I remained relatively calm. He pressed a kiss to my knuckles and gave a goodbye.
Surprisingly, I was happy to get out of here. Everything has changed since Dan.
Dan.

SHIT.
I booked it, ignoring the stares of the worker angels and the obvious pain nagging at me. I ran through the cobbled street I loved so much, earning even more stares from the residents nearby. I passed through the glowing portal, that familiar, but uncomfortable, vibration in my body as I passed. I always hated that. I arrived in the wrong place, some office building around a block away. I cursed for not paying attention and focusing on my destination, dashing through to the straight.
I had left Dan, clearly unable to bring him with for my medical attention for numerous reasons. He was reluctant to let me go, worried I wouldn't make it with my injuries. I admit we were both playing the injuries up to be second life threatening. The only real damage was my lip, which was extremely ugly and uncomfortable. All pain and bruises had subsided thanks to the medicine tucked away in my bra, as I had nowhere else to put it.
I quickly reached the apartment, groaning slightly in pain as I slowed. I floated through the door, noticing Dan was tapping his foot rhythmically. His voice was in small whispers, awaiting my arrival.
"Hey." I called out to him. He looked over and smiled, jumping up to hug me, but quickly stumbling through me. He turned back, his face red.
"Sorry, sometimes I forget you're a gh--Angel." he said."Little flustered?"
"I thought you were dying! Of course!!" he said. I smiled to myself, my face warming slightly.
"Thanks for caring, but I'm fine now." I said. He stared at me for a minute, contemplating something. "What's up?" I asked.
"Nothing it's just..."
"What?"
"No you'll think I'm weird."
"You're talking to a dead person. This is as weird as it gets."
"Can I...hug you?" he asked. I stopped for a moment. He was clearly going to before, but me not being materialized didn't help. "I know you don't feel anything, but I really would like to. I was worried." he said.
"Uh, yeah. That's cool." I said, now embarrassed by what he was asking. I focused my energy into my arms, chest, and neck. He came close and I suddenly felt unbelievably nervous. His arms wrapped around me, pulling me in close. I rocked up to the balls of my feet, my arms hanging limply by my side. I stared over his shoulder, startled by everything that was was happening. I slowly raised my hands up, pressing them into his back.
"I'm so glad you're okay." he said. I felt a warm feeling seep into my body from where he was touching me and I quickly lost all concentration, causing Dan to stumble forward. "You okay?" he asked. I felt my face turn pink.
"Touch me again." I said, holding out my arm.
"What?" he asked.
"Please." he obliged, placing a warm hand on my forearm. "I can feel you." I breathed, letting his soft hand slide off my skin.
"How?" he asked, curious.
"I don't know, but you're so warm." I said. His face flushed as well, and we stood, catching our breath from the excitement. I felt my vision blur slightly and I stumbled back slightly.
"Oh fuck, sorry that was a little much for you right. Especially when you're injured." he said. I nodded and walked to the couch, sinking into it. "Any idea how that works?"
"No, I'm not sure." I said, running my hand over his arm, but this time I felt nothing. "Now it won't work." I sighed, settling back.
"Must've been the moment." he said. I thought for a second. He had a valid point, in that I wasn't feeling things now that it had died down.
"Yeah, I wonder what triggered it though, like what about it." I pondered.
"Yeah, what about it." he repeated. I glanced up at him, watching me with odd eyes. Eyes I hadn't really seen before.
"What?" I asked, with a gentle smile.
"Nothing, just really glad you're okay." a warm blush crept up my face and I felt the need to stutter.
"You have really pretty eyes." I blurted, Dan chuckling.
"I could say the same to you." he replied, still watching me intensely. "I'm really glad you're around, (y/n)." I felt my heart melt at his words, gaining a true friend. A real one. I smiled as my name rolled off his tongue.
"I'm really glad you're around too." I complimented back at him, causing us both to smile.
