I Remember You!

Several memories flashed through Daysi's head. The flashback started with the face of a nerdy kid with glasses and long, brown hair.

Daysi remembered this kid for several reasons. He had once referred to himself as "sexyman", and somehow, Daysi had started to like the child that only spoke when called upon, but always said something hilarious.

She stopped her feelings eventually when she found out a friend had liked him even though she still found him slightly attractive with his hair cut. She got his number and began texting him daily. They would tease each other, call each other names, and every now and then, she would flirt.

She loved his smile and wanted it all to herself. It gave her butterflies. Daysi made excuses to talk to him, so she could make him smile and laugh. Daysi would feel left out, and a bit jealous when he laughed and smiled because of other people. Though, he did treat her differently from her other guy friends, so it almost made her feel special.

He gave her this hard to describe feeling. It's like when you come home for the first time after being gone for so long. It was something like acceptance. He wouldn't judge her, but every now and then they would have an argument and he would get over it, but she would be upset for days.

Sometimes Daysi felt like he didn't care at all, and would get upset at herself for liking him. Daysi would steal glances at him, and found he was looking in her direction, but thought nothing of it. Sometimes, they would make eye contact and hold it for a second or two, but no..... spark would happen.

It was almost like they were trying to figure each other out. Daysi always wondered what he was thinking. She sometimes wondered if she could make him jealous, but decided against it. He was too weird to BE jealous. As long as she could talk to him, she was happy with whatever relationship they had.

At some point they had gotten really close, but never talked in person. At the time, she didn't know why. After consulting Arielle, Daysi realized Logan had began to trust her. Not only with his normal family matters, but also his girl issues.

One day, they confessed to liking each other once, but they remained friends.  Daysi's crush had gone away with time, but every now and then she would think he was cute. It did not help her settle her feelings with all her friends trying to convince her they would make a cute couple. It only made her more confused. She didn't want false hope and to lose an amazing friend.

She had tried to convince herself that she saw him as a brother, because he teased her so often, but that didn't work out so well. She would still  love the way his glasses looked on him, his smile, and his odd humor.

Once high school had started, Daysi had lost her best friend, Chad, and her close friend, Arielle, to different schools, but Logan was still there. Eventually, Daysi and Logan became best friends. They had several classes together in which Logan would make stupid jokes to Daysi from across the room. She would laugh and get in trouble, but getting to talk to Logan was worth the reprimand from her teachers.

Daily, Daysi would text Arielle about what Logan had said that day or they had hung out at lunch. Eventually, Daysi had realized her middle school crush had burst through the little box she'd tucked it into, and began to resurface. To avoid showing her feelings, Daysi avoided Logan their senior year. On graduation day, she had regretted it. Logan and his new popular girlfriend(who was so not his type) were moving in together for college. Daysi thought she'd never see him again.

Now after a few years, every joke, every smile, every stupid laugh was crystal clear to her. After so long, Daysi had started listing his changes in appearance. No more hunch in his back. His cute little lisp that sounded like a British accent only resurfaced when he was nervous. No more cartoon shirts. He'd changed his hair style, and gotten a little taller. Just a few inches above Daysi.

"Logan Fuller." Arielle said and smiled as she remembered the awkward, nerdy child he once was. "Too bad he didn't recognize you."

"Oh." Daysi saddened as she realized Arielle was right. It's been so long. Daysi thought. Maybe I should just let him go.
